The Complete Guide of the Reciters and the Guide for the Seekers of Knowledge Achieved by Nasser Al-Mohammadi, Muhammad Jad The first and important step in the study of the science of readings, as its author was interested in introducing some important issues that a Muslim — let alone a specialist — should be knowledgeable about. The author presented — may Allah have mercy on him — a charming introduction in two chapters that became the main reference for scholars and students after him, in which he covered the definition of the science of readings, the types of readings, and the manners related to the reader that should be possessed; such as sincerity, piety, and morals that suit the status of those specializing in this science. As for what follows: Allah — blessed and exalted be He — willed that I present this book to the audience of readers for the first time nearly three years ago, so perhaps we are no longer in need of introducing the readers to this important book in its subject, after they became familiar with its first edition, and they eagerly accepted it in a manner commensurate with its scientific value. The period between the two editions allowed me to review some texts and investigations, and to add other indexes to facilitate benefiting from the texts of the book; in this edition, the indexes have been reviewed carefully, and some notes and additions have been included, making it more accurate than its predecessor, broader in scope, and more comprehensive. After verifying the need of people for this book and the desire of many scholars in the Islamic countries for its dissemination, Dar Al-Maiman decided to reprint it for the benefit of all. I ask Allah — the Almighty — to make this work purely for His face, and to grant us support and strength to achieve some of our hopes in serving this everlasting heritage, clarifying its face, and facilitating its benefit. He is the best disposer of affairs and the best helper. The reader will also notice how keen we are to ensure this edition is corrected and free from some errors that might have been overlooked in the previous edition. The introduction of this edition contains a discussion of some topics related to the main issue of the book. We also pointed out in this edition something that was not in the previous one; when the author mentions the biography of one of the readers, and he has been previously mentioned elsewhere in the book, we clarify this in the margin, indicating his previous location in the book to make it easier for the reader to follow the study and connect the parts without effort or difficulty. We also paid attention to the weighing of verses and poetry, and placed the name of the sea to which the verse belongs within parentheses in the text. I cannot fail to mention the thanks to the colleagues who participated with me in proofreading this book in its new edition, especially our dear colleague Sheikh Eihab Yasin, head of the readings department at the Arab Company for Information Technology, for his serious reading of this edition and his notable comments, which had the greatest impact on refining the book in this new edition. May Allah reward him and his colleagues with the best reward. And Allah is the grant of success and guidance. First Edition Introduction Praise be to Allah who revealed the Book to His servant and did not make any crookedness in it, and encompassed everything with His knowledge, and counted everything in precise measure. And prayers and peace be upon the noblest of creation and the master of the messengers, our master Muhammad, and upon his family and all his companions, and those who follow his guidance, emulate his Sunnah, and follow his footsteps until the Day of Judgment. After: One of the noble goals of the science of readings — to protect the words of Allah Almighty from distortion and alteration, and also to equip specialists with the ability to distinguish between the mutawatir differences. A group of Muslim scholars — may Allah have mercy on them — paid great attention to the readings of the Holy Qur'an, and exerted commendable efforts in this regard, transmitting them with their chains, addressing their issues, using them to interpret the Qur'an, derive rulings, and choose between narrations. This book is an attempt by a scholar in this field, known for his virtue, extensive knowledge, and excellent authorship. He studied the science of readings and excelled in it, holding many licenses and high chains of narration, so he developed valuable opinions and sayings that enrich this science and benefit its specialists. This book — which I present today to the esteemed reader — is an initial step in studying this science for those wishing to specialize in the science of readings. Its author was interested in introducing some important issues in this science that a Muslim — especially a specialist — should be fully aware of and must not neglect. He introduced his book — may Allah have mercy on him — with an interesting preface in two chapters that became the main reference for scholars and students after him, covering the definition of the science of readings, the types of readings, and the manners related to the reader that should be possessed; such as sincerity, piety, and morals fitting the status of those who specialize in this science. Then the author dedicated himself to removing confusion about a serious issue that readers should not be ignorant of: the issue of the mutawatir reading to ensure it is acceptable, distinguishing between the seven letters mentioned in the hadith, and the seven readings compiled by Ibn Mujahid, trying to clarify this matter for the Muslim community. He also indicated that the ten readings are still well-known and accepted, and no one has denied them, and that the three additional readings beyond the seven are included within the seven letters mentioned by the Prophet — peace be upon him — in his saying: "The Qur'an was revealed in seven letters." All these issues must be fully understood by the Muslim — especially the specialist — so that this book contains essential information that no Muslim should be ignorant of in the science of readings. I decided to publish this book for the following reasons: 1- The importance, honor, and virtue of the science of readings, due to its relation to the noblest book, the best speech, and the most truthful حديث, despite many students of knowledge neglecting it and feeling intimidated by it. 2- The book contains very important issues in this science. 3- Imam Ibn Al-Jazari in this book clarified some issues of the readings and elaborated on them, enriching this science. 4- There has been no edition of the book that matches its scientific status. I ask Allah — the Almighty — to grant us success in all good, for He is the best disposer of affairs and the best helper. And prayers and peace be upon our master Muhammad, his family, and companions.
