The Excellent Gift in Clarifying the Methods of Al-Shatibi and Al-Durra Al-Mudiya By Dr. Ali Muhammad Tawfiq Al-Nahas Among the reciters, the two famous poems are: Imam Al-Shatibi's "Hirz Al-Amani" and Ibn Al-Jazari's "Al-Durra Al-Mudiya" in the readings, and they took the ten mutually transmitted methods of readings from them. However, many of them do not know the methods and chains of these readings; which sometimes causes them to confuse between them and make mistakes in them. So this book came as a clarification of the methods of the book "Al-Taysir," which is the original poem of Al-Shatibi, and a clarification of the additional methods that are permissible to read with, as well as what should not be read from the two methods of Al-Shatibiya and Al-Durra from aspects of performance. The book International Standard Book Number (ISBN): 978-603-8100-71-4 Language: Arabic Binding: Cardboard Type of Paper: Japanese Shamua Number of Pages: 336 Size: 17 × 24 cm Number of Volumes: 1 Weight: 900 grams First Edition Year of Printing: 2014 Introduction Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and prayers and peace be upon the seal of the prophets and the noblest messengers, our master Muhammad, and upon his family and companions altogether. As for what follows: Allah, Glorified and Exalted, has undertaken the preservation of His Noble Book, as He said, Glorified be His mention: {Indeed, it is We who sent down the Reminder, and indeed, We will be its guardian} [Al-Hijr: 9]. He chose from His servants those who are concerned with His Book, teaching it and learning it, as He said: {Then We caused to inherit the Book those of our servants whom We chose} [Fatir: 32]. He prepared for them a way to preserve it through receiving it supported by the chain of narration connected to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who received it from Jibreel عليه السلام from the Lord of Might, Glorified and Exalted, and prominent among these great scholars who authored books and documented them in the ten mutually transmitted readings after mastering and teaching them are: Imam Abu Amr Al-Dani, Imam Abu Al-Qasim Al-Shatibi, Imam Al-Shams Ibn Al-Jazari, and their followers, the investigators and editors who clarified the methods and detailed them, such as Imam Al-Mutawalli and others. It is well known among the reciters the poem of Imam Al-Shatibi, known as "Hirz Al-Amani" and "Wajh Al-Tahani," and the poem of Imam Ibn Al-Jazari, known as "Al-Durra Al-Mudiya," from which they took the ten mutually transmitted readings, known as the Ten Minor Readings. Most reciters do not know the chains of narration of these ten readings, which leads to mixing the methods in their recitations, and this is considered forbidden in the transmission by knowledgeable scholars, or disliked as a prohibition, as the scholars of knowledge have verified. Therefore, I wanted to compile for the reciters a precise clarification of these methods, explaining the methods of Al-Shatibi and Al-Durra so that they do not fall into forbidden matters or incorrect combinations of methods. In the past, clarifying the methods was not known because, during Al-Shatibi's time, reciters memorized "Al-Taysir," which is the original of Al-Shatibi, by heart, and distinguished between the methods of "Al-Taysir" and its additions. But in our time, the mixing of methods has increased, leading to undesirable combinations that attribute the reading to someone other than the one who recited it, thus contradicting what scholars have established about the necessary differences, which are the very essence of the readings, transmissions, and methods; meaning that the reciter is obliged to recite all of them, and if he neglects any, it is considered a deficiency in his recitation. The scholar Muhammad ibn Abdul Rahman Al-Khaliji said in his book "Solving Problems and Clarifying Clarifications in the Readings": Some of our teachers said: what is not from the way of the book — meaning Al-Shatibi — is divided into two parts: a part mentioned in Al-Tibiyya, and a part not mentioned. If recited with the mentioned, there is no harm in it; but the reciter should be aware that it is not from the methods of the book, and what is not mentioned should not be recited, such as the omission of the hamza from {Shuraka'iyy} for Al-Bazi, and the assimilation of {Wajabat Junubuha} for Ibn Daqwan, and the elongation of {Nahisat} for Al-Layth. Therefore, in this book, we mentioned the methods of "Al-Taysir," which are the foundation of Al-Shatibi's book, and the additional methods that are permissible to recite, as well as what should not be recited from Al-Shatibi and Al-Durra. The methods of "Al-Taysir" are the introduction to proper performance because they are the foundation of Al-Shatibi; likewise, the methods of "Tahbeer Al-Taysir" are the introduction to proper performance because they are the foundation of Al-Durra. This clarification, God willing, will assist the reciter in reading the Qur'an correctly, free from mixing methods or incorrect combinations. With God's success, and He is the Helper, and upon Him do we rely. May Allah's peace and blessings be upon our master Muhammad, his family, and all his companions, and those who follow them with goodness until the Day of Judgment.
