Thus the question emerges from the first lines of one of the most beautiful short stories written by Stefan Zweig, pulling the suspense to its maximum, facilitating the process of entering a simple yet complex narrative world, simple in terms of the number of actors, and complex in shaping the features of their characters, especially since among humans there is a dog that is the mainstay of the events and their pillar, and an example of the intense conflict between the soul and its urges on one side, and the positions and their dictates on the other. In such a conflict, a person may descend to the level of an animal in his savage behavior, and the dog may wear the garment of human contradiction, combining arrogance and submission, as well as resentment and sensitivity. The most important question remains: is he capable of overcoming his limited understanding and able to plan and manage? And was he really the one who did it?
