The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho

The Alchemist is a novel that made its author one of the most famous international writers. A Andalusian shepherd named Santiago, who went in search of his dream represented by a buried treasure near the pyramids of Egypt. His journey began from Spain passing through Morocco until he reached Egypt. He was guided throughout the journey by supernatural signs. On his way to the treasure, many events occur that prevent him from continuing his journey, until he finds the means to continue. He is robbed twice, works in a glass shop, accompanies an Englishman searching for his personal legend, witnesses wars between tribes, until he meets the alchemist, a wise man of great secrets who urges him to move toward his treasure. At the same time, he meets Fatima, his great love, and a conflict rages inside him between staying with his beloved and continuing the journey in search of the treasure. And so, the idea of this novel is summarized in a sentence said by the king to Santiago: "If you desire something, the whole universe conspires to help you achieve your desire." In this novel, Coelho revisits an ancient theme: could our personal legend be our discovery of our right to happiness?
