Introduction
In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
Praise be to Allah who sent His Messenger Muhammad with guidance and the religion of truth, to be to the worlds a glad tidings and a warner, and I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, without partner, to Him belongs sovereignty and praise, and sufficient is Allah as a Trustee, and sufficient is Allah as a Helper. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, who revealed the Book upon him, and said to him: "And We have revealed to you the Reminder that you may clarify to the people what has been revealed to them" [An-Nahl: 44]. So, with it, He bestowed great virtue, and everything added to him of speech or action, or similar, is an explanation of the revealed remembrance, clarification, and interpretation.
May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, as long as the heavens and the earth endure, and the Noble Reminder remains high and well-known. To the workers and to the agency, and upon his family who belonged to him, so Allah the Almighty chose them, removed from them impurity, and purified them thoroughly. And upon his companions who sacrificed themselves and their wealth in preserving His Shariah and conveying it to the people, seeking thereby Allah’s favor and a great kingdom. And upon all scholars, especially the people of Hadith, who carried His pure Sunnah and spread it among the people generation after generation in teaching and reminding. They did not weaken in the face of what befell them in this path, nor did they falter or submit, but they were diligent, strengthened, and generous, and their glory was worthy of them. Through that, they attained the best reward and abundant generous provision from their Lord, and they achieved the highest success and extensive abundant giving.
O Allah, guide us to follow their path, keep us away from deviation and misguidance, and from straying from their guidance. Make our death upon love for them, and gather us with their groups. Indeed, You are Compassionate to us, and capable of all things.
Afterward:
This is an explanation I have prepared on the introduction of the authentic book of Imam Al-Hafiz, the proof Abu Al-Husayn Muslim ibn Al-Hajjaj Al-Qushayri Al-Nisaburi, may Allah have mercy on him. It clarifies its words, explains its meanings, and completes its objectives, so that it may satisfy the eyes of those in need from its seekers. Do not aspire to anything other than it mostly, for its main purpose. I do not wish to prolong describing its clarification but to suffice with a quick glance, for the intelligent understands by indication what the foolish does not understand with a thousand words. The dull benefit nothing from lengthy speech, even if the Torah and the Gospel were recited to him. Witnessing is higher than testimony, and the strongest means of benefit.
O son of the noble, do you not come closer to see what has been narrated to you? And what is the view of one who heard? [I named it: The Delight of the Needy, in the explanation of the introduction of Imam Muslim ibn Al-Hajjaj’s authentic book].
By Allah, the Generous, I ask for acceptance and sincerity, and that it benefits me and everyone I meet with a sound heart on the day of judgment. Indeed, He is the All-Hearing, the Near, the Answerer of supplications. And He is the One who accepts repentance from His servants, forgives sins, and knows what you do.
And I seek only to rectify as much as I can, and my success is only by Allah. Upon Him I rely, and to Him I turn.
Know that it is appropriate for me to present before the explanation an introduction about Imam Muslim, may Allah have mercy on him, clarifying his rank, his book, his virtue, and his conditions, seeking help from Allah, and drawing from what the eminent Imams wrote: like Imam Hafiz Abu Fadl ibn Ammar, who died in 317 AH, the author of "Al-'Illal of Sahih Muslim"; and Hafiz Abu Fadl Muhammad ibn Tahir Al-Maqdisi (448–507 AH), author of the conditions of the six Imams; and Imam Al-'Alim Al-Qadi 'Iyad, who died in 544 AH; and Hafiz Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Musa Al-Hazimi (548–584 AH), author of "The Conditions of the Five Imams"; and Sheikh Taqi Al-Din Abu 'Amr 'Uthman ibn 'Abd Al-Rahman ibn 'Uthman ibn Musa, known as Ibn Al-Salah Al-Shahrzuri (557–643 AH); and the explaining scholar, the Hadith jurist, the investigator, and the uncontroversial supporter of the Shafi'i school of thought, Hayy Al-Din Abu Zakariya Yahya ibn Sharf ibn Murr Al-Nawawi (631–676 AH); and Hafiz Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn 'Umar ibn Muhammad ibn Rashid Al-Fihri (657–721 AH); and Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Naqid Al-Kabir Abu Al-Hajjaj Al-Mizzi (654–742 AH); and Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Naqid, the insightful, the great historian, Shams Al-Din Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Qaymaz Al-Dimashqi (673–748 AH); and Imam Al-Hafiz Zain Al-Din 'Abd Al-Rahman ibn Ahmad, known as Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali (736–795 AH); and Imam Al-Hafiz Al-Jahiz, the distinguished Hadith scholar among the later, Abu Al-Fadl Shihab Al-Din Ahmad ibn 'Ali ibn Muhammad Al-Kanani Al-Misri (749–852 AH). This is what is meant when the term "Hafiz" is used in this explanation and in my other writings, and among these great scholars, and the noble Imams. May Allah have mercy on them and us, and be pleased with them with His forgiveness and generosity. Amen.
I cannot omit mentioning those who exerted great effort and sought to serve this book, from late and contemporary scholars. May Allah reward everyone with the best reward. Amen, Amen, Amen.
This research is divided into two chapters: the first chapter about the translator of the author, and the second about his book.
