And today, when I present this unknown treasure, this precious "Wadi'ite" pearls from the heritage of Wadi' Palestine, "Jabarti of Contemporary Literature," I offer the Arab reader an important aspect of Wadi' Palestine's writings during a pivotal period in the history of Egypt and the region. Their value lies in that these writings expressed the spirit of that era, when communication means were limited to newspapers, magazines, and radio, before the launch of the communication revolution. They reflected the spirit of that period and its political, social, cultural, and intellectual features.
What distinguishes these "Sawanih" is that when I read them, I found most of them — and I do not exaggerate if I say all of them — true to much of our contemporary reality, as if history repeats itself with different names and details. Perhaps Wadi' Palestine's "Sawanih" will be the beginning of other collections of this giant writer's creativity, for in his writings: there is depiction of personalities, analysis of poetry, literary criticism, and masterpieces worthy of publication... and a clear mirror of his brilliance and his sincerity to his lofty ideals, which have been free from the superficiality and affectation that some writers hide behind and cling to.
