I compiled this, and guaranteed that whoever masters it will have all scientific demands opened to him. I named it: (The Key to the Sciences). I divided this book into three parts: Part One: In the science of morphology (صرف). Part Two: In the science of grammar (نحو). Part Three: In the sciences of meanings and rhetoric (معاني وبيان). About the book: It is one of the most important and greatest books that discussed all branches of the Arabic language, combining the three most important sciences of the language: morphology, which consists of several chapters and sections; the sciences of rhetoric and meanings, especially and rhetoric; and the sciences of grammar and syntax. Therefore, it is considered one of the most comprehensive books that provide many important pieces of information for anyone who refers to it, whether researcher or student in the Arabic language. It has great importance in the development of the Arabic language, especially the third part, which is the part related to rhetoric. Skaiki divided it into three sciences: “Meanings, Badi’ (rhetorical embellishment), and Bayan (rhetoric).” However, what can be criticized about Skaiki in this book is his difficult style, as he was influenced by the language of philosophers and their lexical dictionary. Therefore, reading the book becomes difficult, especially for the ordinary reader. After a careful scientific journey, which Dar al-Taqwa in Damascus always strives for in all its publications… May Allah, the Generous, grant success in dusting off the years and ages from the “Explanation of the Key to the Sciences” by the distinguished scholar Saad al-Din Masoud ibn Omar al-Taftazani, and presenting it in the most beautiful form, verified on valuable handwritten copies, adorned with comments derived from his own marginal notes, which soften its fruits and smooth its words. And here it is today, shining with its beauty in the hands of readers, being the conclusion of the scholar Saad’s rhetorical works, written in the later years of his life after he was seasoned by time and affairs, taking from other sciences abundant knowledge, and including benefits that are unmatched elsewhere. He made it an example to be followed in precise analysis, insight, critique, and fairness. Furthermore, Dar al-Taqwa in Damascus has previously honored the noble service of the most important of the scholar Saad’s rhetorical works, which is “The Concise Explanation of the Summary of the Key.” And it is seen that fulfilling the legacy of this distinguished scholar requires, with Allah’s permission and facilitation, attaching the book “The Extended Explanation of the Summary of the Key” with its two brothers in the care and interest, to be the perfect jewel and the fragrant conclusion. And Allah is the helper, the grantor of success, and the facilitator.
