Scholars across all Arab countries have studied them in schools and institutes, and read them in clubs and gatherings. These Maqamat are a remarkable artistic work, unmatched, containing a variety of expressions, the most refined styles, and clear eloquence, with perfect craftsmanship, elegant preface, and free from awkwardness and vulgarity. They have become a pinnacle of Arabic literature, elevating beyond mere challenge or opposition. They were crafted in diverse councils, with topics varying according to the countries he imagined he visited and traveled to—ranging from Fergana to Gana—and shaped into charming forms in literature, criticism, admonition, and humor, interwoven with descriptions of society and people's conditions. They are written in a style of complete rhyme (saj'), decorated with various rhetorical devices such as pun (jinas), antithesis (tibaq), and parallelism (muqabala). Although these Maqamat hold a high status among the ancients, as Yaqut said: "They were blessed with luck unlike any other book; combining quality and eloquence, with expansive vocabulary, mastering its grip and control, and beautifully structured; if claimed to be miraculous, no one could match or surpass them, nor could anyone produce similar." They gained widespread fame and popularity, appreciated by both supporters and critics alike, and deservedly so. They are not free from criticism and some have disparaged them, including Ibn Al-Athir in "Al-Mathal Al-Sa’ir" and Ibn Al-Taqtqi in "Al-Adab Al-Sultani." Our edition is enriched with a comprehensive commentary on the Maqamat, collecting scattered explanations and encompassing various benefits and knowledge. The early scholars were eager to read, understand, and learn their content and methods. Therefore, intelligent people were keen to memorize them and master their styles, as they are considered "the fruit of gatherings" and the pinnacle of high literary art, expanding the learner's understanding of the language of the Qur'an and strengthening their ideas through mastery of the styles of eloquent speakers. In an effort by Dar Al-Minhaj to revive rare old books, they adopted the Bolak edition, applied their artistic and printing touches to it, and meticulously restored the book letter by letter to enhance visual enjoyment and facilitate reading. The scientific committee at the publishing house also reviewed it to correct and purify it from obvious errors.
