Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais The conflict and weighing between interests and harms and the stance of the foundational scholars on it Third: The methodology of working in the book: I have followed the following steps in the methodology of work: 1 - Collecting the method of induction and tracing. 2 - Focusing on presenting the most important issues related to conflict, especially in the chapter of interests and harms, and presenting them in a concise foundational manner. 3 - Mentioning the correct method of weighing when interests and harms conflict, and the proper way of balancing between them, and the correct stance in this regard, supported by examples. 4 - Proceeding according to the scientific method in terms of documentation, attribution, and reference. 5 - For what the book needs of scientific documentation, I adhere to its authentic sources. 6 - Arranged the references according to the doctrinal and chronological order mostly. 7 - Cited the verses with their surahs, mentioning the verse number and the surah name. 8 - Extracted the hadiths and sayings from their original sources. 9 - Translated the famous personalities briefly. 10 - Ended the book with various indexes, which are: 1 - Index of Quranic verses. 2 - Index of Prophetic hadiths. 3 - Index of personalities. 4 - Index of sources and references. 5 - Index of topics. These are the main features of the methodology I followed in this book, asking Allah for success, guidance, sincerity, and correctness in speech and action. In conclusion, I hope this work will contribute significantly to alleviating the suffering of the nation, and to raising its wings and easing its burdens, and to enlightening it about the priorities and important matters when crises appear, problems multiply, and issues become tangled and distressing. I also hope that a disciplined methodology will be established for arranging interests when they clash, and how to weigh evidence when they conflict, along with clarifying what is necessary in that, and what follows from it of deriving the purpose of the Sharia, which requires broad understanding and firm experience of reality and changes, along with proper utilization of the meanings of necessities, needs, and enhancements, in light of the science of Usul al-Fiqh and the science of Maqasid al-Shariah. I ask Allah — the Most High — for success, guidance, and righteousness in what I have intended and aimed for, and for correctness and reward in what I have researched and presented. He is the Generous, Noble. May Allah's peace, blessings, and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and all his companions.
