The investigation and compilation of Amer Al-Jazar, Abdullah Al-Manshawi.
The book is a collection of questions and answers about issues of jurisprudence that were transmitted to Imam Malik, narrated by Abdul Salam bin Saeed Al-Tanookhi, nicknamed Sahnoun (240 AH / 854 AD), who compiled and authored them, and narrated from Abdul Rahman bin Al-Qasim Al-Atqi (191 AH / 806 AD) from Imam Malik bin Anas.
It is sometimes attributed to Sahnoun because he narrated it, so it is called the Sahnoun's Manuscript.
The manuscript gathers the opinions of Imam Malik bin Anas narrated from him, arranged according to his principles, and based on the opinions of some of his companions, along with some narrations and hadiths that came in issues of Maliki jurisprudence.
It is said that its origin is the Asadi, written by Asad bin Al-Furat, reviewed by Ali bin Al-Qasim, who added to it, modified it, and changed it.
The manuscript became the foundation of Maliki jurisprudence, and nothing else is relied upon.
It is a preface to other works and comes second after Al-Muwatta.
Most Maliki scholars accept what is included in the manuscript, as it is the most authentic narration and the highest level in terms of hearing and narration.
It is relied upon in fatwa by scholars of Kairouan.
The manuscript consists of questions and answers about jurisprudence issues, totaling 6,200 questions, arranged by chapters of jurisprudence, and includes the narration of Imam Malik from the Companions and Tabi‘un.
Therefore, it is considered the most authentic book of branches in Maliki jurisprudence narration.
