Why did Muslims delay and why did others advance? Why did Muslims delay? And why did others advance? Author: Shakib Arslan From the introduction of the researcher Hassan Al-Samahi Swidan: Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family, companions, and those who follow him. Afterward; the delay of Muslims is the greatest dilemma, which scholars and thinkers have faced, examining different perspectives. Some looked at one side and neglected another, so their solutions were incomplete. Others looked at a comprehensive view, like Prince Shakib, may Allah have mercy on him, in this book, and the answer came closer to the truth. I do not doubt that the delay is the result of internal factors, some of which the prince mentioned; such as ignorance (and incomplete knowledge, a compounded ignorance), despair, and laziness. Among external factors is the cause of the invading enemy, who sensed the weakness of Muslims, and mobilized armies to occupy their lands, plunder their wealth, and strip them of their freedoms. When they left, they left behind agents to serve their interests and achieve their goals as if they were personally doing so. These are more dangerous to the fate of the nation than the enemy itself. Monitoring the manifestations of internal and external delay and not neglecting any of them is the first step to understanding the reasons that led to this miserable reality that the nation lives in from the ocean to the ocean. Prince Shakib, known for his extensive knowledge, deep distinguished experience, sincere concern for the affairs of the Muslim nation, and diligent follow-up on its problems and conditions, is the most qualified to clarify the reason for Muslims' delay and others' progress. The prince spoke about the manifestations and causes of delay, mentioning ignorance, imitation, greed, and fear of risking, and explained that these lead to weakness in the nation, which is love of comfort, laziness, procrastination, and a rigid outlook. He also spoke about corruption, which is the greatest cause of delay, especially the corruption of princes and scholars, and the calamities it brings to the nation. Corruption among princes and scholars prevents the nation from reform or construction. Therefore, the path toward progress must take two routes: First: The path of beneficial knowledge, which includes the spirit and body, the individual and the community, the immediate and the delayed. This requires strong will, patience, perseverance, sacrifice, and giving. Second: The path of upright morals, which are the fruit of true religion and sincere commitment to Islam, which Allah revealed to His Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and perfected noble morals through it. The affairs of this nation were rectified at the beginning, and it had a civilization that contributed greatly to the progress of humanity. Book: Why did Muslims delay? And why did others advance?
