The main book in rulings is one of the most beneficial and precious books for students of knowledge, and it is the most authentic as the author selected it from the authentic hadiths. Whoever wants to limit himself to the authentic, he should rely on Al-‘Umdat, although he cannot do without other books in rulings hadiths, which are more comprehensive than Al-‘Umdat, such as Al-Muharrar and Al-Bulugh, and more comprehensive than them is Al-Muntaqa by Al-Mujadid Ibn Taymiyah. So, Al-‘Umdat contains all authentic hadiths, and students of knowledge should be keen on it. Al-Bulugh contains hadiths not found in Al-‘Umdat, which are needed by students. Al-Muharrar contains rulings, warnings on hadiths, and explanations of some defects not found in Al-Bulugh. If a student of knowledge wanted to compile these books into one collection and mention the additions of each over the others, through this effort, these benefits are established. Among the greatest commentaries on Al-‘Umdat are the explanation by Ibn Daqiq Al-‘Id (Ihkam Al-Ahkam), and by Ibn Al-Muqleln (Al-Ilam bi Fawaid ‘Umdat Al-Ahkam). It is a good book, including (Taysir Al-‘Alam wa Fi Mawarid Al-Afham min Salasabil ‘Umdat Al-Ahkam), and (Kashf Al-Litham fi Sharh ‘Umdat Al-Ahkam). These are among the most valuable commentaries. Its publication was delayed due to a slight defect in its early editions, then it was printed after that with the defect corrected. There are more than ten commentaries on Al-‘Umdat, but the most valuable and best for students of knowledge are the explanation by Ibn Daqiq Al-‘Id, which is difficult and complex in its wording and sources, and the explanation by Ibn Al-Muqleln, which is easier than Ibn Daqiq Al-‘Id’s. The marginal notes by Al-San‘ani on Ibn Daqiq Al-‘Id’s explanation are very beneficial, resolving many issues. Students of knowledge should pay attention to both. The explanation by Sheikh Ibn Bassem is moderate and easy, understandable by ordinary learners.
