I present to the Arab reader, and to those concerned with Arabic grammar, a summary of what I used to discuss about the fundamentals of grammar from talks on the principles of grammar with my students in postgraduate studies at Umm Al-Qura University, during the doctoral program over the years. I discussed the ideas contained within it with a number of my students who later became professors in various universities, and perhaps if they review it, they will remember it, or something from it, or remind me of what I failed to mention. There is a problem in the grammatical lesson, such that it has become, in the general view of university professors, nothing more than reiterating what previous scholars have said, and among researchers, it is nothing more than repeating what has been said, re-producing the product. In all of this, they do not go beyond the lesson of branches of grammar, so that their lesson pays less attention to the fundamentals of the grammatical lesson, and to a deep look into the dimensions of the Arabic grammatical lesson. As for talking about the fundamentals of grammar, it is no different for them than discussing issues of grammar and its subdivisions, a repeated, recycled talk, transmitted by the later from the earlier, and the subsequent from the previous. Perhaps, through this work, I am offering a proposal that I claim contains something new, and perhaps it contains something that the concerned person in Arabic grammar is searching for. Perhaps what I present will provoke some readers, with the acknowledgment that some recipients will oppose it, and that is their right. Among them are those who accept it, and both groups will add to me what I can add or correct in subsequent publications; because serious work cannot do without critical and supportive readings that constitute an added knowledge to the original. We need to revive a new spirit in the study of Arabic grammar, and to infuse it with a breath that breathes life into the souls of the recipients. Perhaps this work is an attempt that may be useful to some, and not useful to others, and this is natural in every thought or opinion that others examine, with their reception varying between rejection, acceptance, conditional acceptance, or neutrality. The main problem in our thinking is the late accepting the early, and this has prevented those whom prophets called to think and listen to them; because if they listen carefully and free themselves from their whims, they will be guided to a straight path, "Indeed, we found our fathers on a way, and we are guided by their footsteps," and "We follow their example."
