Then some people after them took from them and cared about its accuracy, knowing the faces of its readings. Over time and through the passing days, they dispersed in the cities, leaving behind generations after generations, until Allah may bring this nation to what He has decreed — that those who strive to preserve these readings and distinguish between the famous and the strange, the correct and the false, based on sound scientific foundations, are appointed. From here, the seven or ten or forty Qura'at were established for reasons more than others. This science was transmitted and taken upon itself to clarify these stages and refute them with explanations of the readings, their rulings, the origin of the readings, the strange ones, their حكم (ruling).
