For the statement: Ahmad Muhammad Shakir The Motivating and Urgent Explanation of the Summary of the Sciences of Hadith
The importance of the scientific book: the book derives its importance from fundamental matters:
The first is that the knowledge of Hadith is dangerous in its impact, its benefit is many, most rulings are based upon it, and through it, halal and haram are known, and for its people, there is a terminology that the seeker must understand. Therefore, it is recommended to give attention to a book in its science (2).
(1) Rules of Hadith from the sciences of the terminology of Hadith (p. 44-47).
(2) Extracted from the introduction of the explanation of Al-Iraqi for his poem.
The second is that the book in your hand is a summary of a book considered the original and the source for all who came after it, namely the introduction of Ibn al-Salah, which Al-Bulqini said about it: the virtues of terminology 164 - with the introduction:
One of the most important matters that the student cares about and the eager desires is knowing the types of sciences of Hadith.
And many scholars have spoken about this in the past and in Hadith, and among the best and most beneficial and most impactful is the book of the Hafiz, the scholar Abu Amr ibn al-Salah, in which he revealed most of the terminology.
And he said about it (1) the Hafiz Ibn Hajar in his Nuzhat:
"People have been engrossed in it and have followed its path, so the number of poets who have composed it, summarized it, added comments on it, and opposed it is uncountable."
The third is that his summary is a leader among the imams, and there is no doubt that those among the scholars who are distinguished are more capable of summarizing it and extracting its benefits without neglect or boredom, and this is what our Imam, may Allah have mercy on him, did with wide mercy.
As for the book's relation to its author, the Imam Ibn Kathir:
It has been established that Imam Ibn Kathir has a summarized book on the sciences of Hadith, which is a summary of Imam Ibn al-Salah's book, and this has been confirmed by several points, including:
1 - The name of the book appears on the top of some manuscripts as "Summary of the Sciences of Hadith" attributed to Ibn Kathir, as will be described soon in the description of the manuscripts.
2 - His statement in the introduction of the book: "And because the book that he cared to refine (1) in the introduction of Ibn al-Salah."
