Najm al-Din Abdul Ghaffar al-Qazwini al-Hawi al-Saghir | Najm al-Din Abdul Ghaffar bin Abdul Karim al-Qazwini al-Shafi’i
Al-Hawi al-Saghir is a book in jurisprudence for Imam Najm al-Din Abdul Ghaffar bin Abdul Karim al-Qazwini al-Shafi’i (d. 665 AH). It is considered one of the main books of jurisprudence in the Shafi’i school, and it is a summary of the Al-Sharh al-Kabir by Imam Abu al-Qasim al-Rafi’i al-Qazwini (d. 623 AH), called “Fath al-Aziz.”
Ibn al-Mulkin said: “Indeed, the book Al-Hawi al-Saghir in the jurisprudence of Imam Abdullah Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi’i, authored by Najm Abdul Ghaffar ibn Abdul Karim al-Qazwini — may God sanctify their souls and illuminate their graves — is one of the greatest, most noble, most valuable, highest, most comprehensive, most eloquent, and most impressive books.”
Mohammad ibn Ahmad al-Nashri said: “The book Al-Hawi by Imam Najm al-Din Abdul Ghaffar al-Qazwini is among the finest of the summaries, containing what the larger works did not include, with the smallest size, and full of benefits, knowledge, and insights. No one has matched its style, nor has anyone produced a similar work among the compilers.”
Al-Yaf’i said: He followed a path in “his Hawi” that no one has caught up with or approached.
Welcome to the small one, to distinguish it from the larger Al-Hawi by al-Mawardi, may God have mercy on him.
