Acceptance of Hadith: A Study in the Methodologies of the Muhaddithin and the Usulis
By Dr. Moataz Al-Khatib
Dar Al-Riyahin has issued, with praise to Allah Almighty, the new expanded and revised edition of the book: "Acceptance of Hadith: A Study in the Methodologies of the Muhaddithin and the Usulis," which is the second book by the author after his "Rejection of Hadith from the Text Perspective: A Study in the Methodologies of the Muhaddithin and the Usulis," whose new edition was published a few months ago by Dar Al-Riyahin.
This book complements the scholarly project that combines both sides of modern Hadith criticism: acceptance and rejection; as neither can be understood except in light of the other. It presents the author's central thesis regarding the existence of two methodologies in Hadith criticism: one of the Muhaddithin and the other of the jurists and usulis, clarifying that the disagreement between the two groups is a methodological, complementary disagreement that reveals the diversity of perspectives and the function of each science.
The author aims through this work to:
1. Reconstruct the vision of each of the Muhaddith and the Usuli in light of their comprehensive conceptions.
2. Analyze the methodological dimensions of scholarly disagreement and their impact on criticizing Hadiths of rulings.
3. Show how methodological pluralism contributes to a deeper understanding of sectarian jurisprudential differences and enriches Hadith discussion.
This new edition is characterized by being revised and expanded, including dozens of modifications and additions. The most prominent is a new expanded chapter (about 150 pages) that traces the development of the idea of distinguishing between the methodologies of the Muhaddithin and the Usulis in criticizing and justifying Hadiths from the second to the ninth Hijri century, with practical discussions illustrating the nature of the disagreement and its scientific impact.
With this publication, the two parts of Dr. Moataz Al-Khatib's project in the methodology of Hadith criticism—between acceptance and rejection—are completed. It combines historical and methodological analysis and highlights the deep integration between the sciences of Hadith and Usul in constructing a cohesive, pluralistic critical theory.
The book is in a fine hardcover binding — Shamua Creamy paper — and spans 400 pages.
