Educational benefits from the forty hadiths of Imam An-Nawawi.
Introduction
Praise be to Allah who completed our religion for us, perfected His blessing upon us, and was pleased with Islam as our religion, and made our nation the best nation, and sent among us a Messenger from us who recites His verses to us, purifies us, and teaches us the Book and wisdom. Peace and blessings be upon him, his family, and his companions, and abundant peace and blessings.
As for what follows:
These are some benefits in creed, upbringing, and conduct, derived from the forty hadiths of Imam An-Nawawi, may Allah have mercy on him, and all the scholars of the nation.
The origin of these benefits are monthly lessons I delivered, praise be to Allah and with His success, in the Al-Khafji Governorate under the generous sponsorship of the Department of Mosques, Da’wah, and Guidance, and the Cooperative Office for Da’wah and Awareness of Expatriates there. May Allah reward them well and bless their efforts.
Some virtuous people suggested that these benefits be compiled into a book, so I reviewed and organized them into points and paragraphs, leaving out much explanation and detail for fear that the book would become too large, and to facilitate benefiting from them, God willing.
The importance of upbringing and self-purification in the religion of Islam is not hidden; Allah revealed the books, sent the messengers, and legislated laws of creed and rulings for the purpose of raising people through the monotheism of Allah, sincerity in worship to Him alone, following His commands, and avoiding His prohibitions.
Allah, the Most High, said:
"He is the One who sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves, reciting to them His verses, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom, although they had been before in clear error." (Surah Al-Jumu’ah, 2).
And "The Lord is the one who nurtures all His servants through management and various blessings, and what is more specific is His nurturing of His chosen ones by rectifying their hearts, spirits, and morals. That is why they often supplicate Him with this noble name, because they seek from Him this special nurturing." (See the book "Sharh Al-Asma’ Al-Husna" by Ibn Al-Qayyim and the introduction to the Tafsir of Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sa’di, may Allah have mercy on them).
And the “Rubani” (spiritual guide) mentioned by Allah in His saying:
"But be ye rubaniyyin by what ye teach of the Book and what ye study." (Surah Al-Imran).
He is the one who is a sincere servant of Allah and who educates people according to the Shariah of Allah through knowledge, da’wah, worship, and dealings. He combines teaching and upbringing. (See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Tafsir Al-Baghawi, and Sheikh Muhammad Al-Uthaymeen’s Tafsir of this verse, may Allah have mercy on them).
Contemplating the texts of Shariah from the Book and Sunnah and deriving benefits and rulings from them is a well-known methodology followed by scholars of the nation, both old and new, as is the case with most tafsir books, hadith collections, and their explanations.
The nation’s need to ponder and understand the benefits from the texts of Shariah is urgent and critical because Islamic law is complete, suitable for every time and place, and encompasses all the needs of mankind until the Day of Judgment.
Allah, the Most High, said:
"Written by Him you are sent down, blessed, so that they may ponder His verses and so that those of understanding may remember." (Surah Sad).
I ask Allah to benefit from these benefits, and to reward everyone who helped in spreading them with goodness, and to forgive us, our parents, our scholars, and all Muslims.
