This book is a summary of a brilliant genius that filled the world and occupied people in its time and beyond. Its author, Abu Muhammad Ibn Hazm, Al-Andalusi, embedded his experiences in life, which he lived fluctuating between blessings and hardships, between a long-standing noble status and difficult days, as a fugitive and exile among the noble people, their morals, conduct, fluctuations, conditions, and ambitions. He observes the points of divergence, similarity, difference, and opposition among them, deriving the constants of human nature, what can change within it, and what can be repaired.
He sees the high rotation of the world and its people from time to time, looks at the Hereafter, and what Allah has prepared for His servants of the everlasting reward. He weighs people's conditions with the scale of the Quran and Sunnah, with his keen mind and far-sighted vision, and summarizes all of that in few words or brief frameworks, in a language and style that are captivating and penetrating, so that these words become like a constitution for scholars, guiding their members. They do not repeat previous experiences nor fall into mistakes that harm others, but can avoid them, see the heights of progress, follow them, and ascend to their peaks.
Ibn Hazm — may Allah have mercy on him — saw that uprightness in behavior is a healing for the soul and mind, and he offers it with effective medicine. People are now enlightened and guided, so he poured into this book all the medicine he could see, and completely, without any desire for personal gain.
