Compilation Dr. Mansour Al-Suqoob Explanation of the Great Summary of the Rules Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and companions all together: As for what follows: Indeed, knowledge is honored by the honor of the one to whom it is attributed, and there is no doubt that the most honorable sciences after the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of the Prophet, is that which he does not speak from his own desire, and he said: Beware, I have been given the Qur'an and something like it with it. The scholars have been concerned with compiling books that gather his Hadiths, and they have various methods and approaches, including - as will come - Hadiths of rulings, and among these books that have received great care from scholars is the book (The Great Summary of the Rules from the Speech of the Best of Creatures (peace be upon him)) by Imam Al-Hafiz Abdul Ghani Al-Maqdisi. And this book in your hands is an explanation of the Great Summary; I aimed to clarify the purposes of the Hadiths, mention their most important issues, some of their subtleties, with my certainty that the book has several explanations, but I adopted in this work a method that perhaps adds clarity, avoids lengthy discussion of jurisprudential issues, and I also wished to follow the path of those who honored the explanation of this book and clarified its terms. I have adopted the following approach in the explanation: - I translate the companion of the Hadith briefly, and refer in my translation to the most important sources that discussed his biography. - I mention words that were ambiguous, or whose meaning was not ambiguous but needed clarification due to their connection to jurisprudence, and I give each set of words a separate title if they are multiple, saying: "His strange words." - I mention the most important issues of the Hadith without exhaustiveness, with attention to mentioning the Hanbali school’s view on the issue; if they agree with the majority, I suffice with naming the majority, and sometimes I mention some subtleties and benefits of the Hadith, including them within the issues derived from the Hadith. - I care to include the opinions of the schools from their trusted books. - I often refer to the choice of Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn al-Qayyim, and some contemporary scholars regarding disputed issues. - When starting a new chapter, I mention the meaning of the chapter and the number of Hadiths it contains. - I pay attention in the footnotes to mentioning the locations where Bukhari and Muslim have extracted the Hadiths of the Great Summary, because these locations and headings, especially in Bukhari, are useful and help in understanding the issues of Hadith and some of its benefits. I am aware of the shortcomings in this work, but perhaps it will benefit a student and serve a seeker of knowledge. In conclusion, I do not forget to thank the brothers who helped me review the book and provided some remarks, may Allah reward them well, bless them in their time and their lives. I ask Allah the Almighty to make this book purely for His face, to bring us closer to His pleasure and Paradise, and to gather us with our Prophet in the highest part of Paradise. And peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and companions all together. Written by Mansour bin Muhammad Al-Suqoob 1441/3/8 AH
