Introduction to the book:
One of the most important messages and texts that a student of grammar and Arabic begins with. Its author based it on three principles: the factor, the governed, and the work (syntax). With this elegant division, it distinguishes itself from the approach followed by students of the "Alfiyyah of Ibn Malik and its explanations," and this enriches the understanding of the fundamentals of grammatical issues and the recall of the grammatical meaning, especially for non-native speakers of the language of الضاد (the Arabic language), who paid great attention to this text.
This gentle text was widely known among foreigners, due to its content—despite its modest size—containing the fundamentals of Arabic grammar in a smooth style, with illustrative examples that are easy to understand and grasp.
As for its author, the scholar Abdul Qahir Al-Jurjani, he is more prominent than to be merely pointed out, and higher than to be translated. Just listen to the words of his contemporary, the distinguished historian Al-BaKhurzi: "All tongues agree on his imamate, and his place and time have adorned the places and eras. He was praised by noble elements, and his necks' crowns were strengthened by him." He is a unique figure in his extensive knowledge; indeed, he is the unique scholar among the famous imams.
Today, the Arabic language is in continuous neglect, a trend followed by its people and those concerned with it. It is in constant decline, struggling with colloquial dialects and their advocates, who rarely tire.
If it were not for reprinting these beloved books for studying Arabic, examining them for clarification and presentation, with the efforts of those with weak ambitions among scholars and students, we would lose the most important element in shaping our Quranic identity.
Work is ongoing, God willing, to complete these foundational books and present them carefully to students, elevating their value at their reading, dispelling boredom from their minds when memorizing and studying, and inspiring motivation to read and review them, especially after they have been absent from the world of printing for some time.
In support of Dar Al-Minhaj in strengthening the foundations of this grammatical school, and as a contribution to diversifying educational methods, we are pleased to publish this gentle text by the scholar Imam Al-Jurjani, may Allah have mercy on him, hoping it will be beneficial for students and that it will open the door for further study.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
