Makarim al-Akhlaq and Hasan al-Adab, the beautiful descriptions and strange similes, a work by an obscure compiler who seems to have lived in the middle of the sixth century. He remains well, and his work has been verified, extracted, and refined with precision and craftsmanship. Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Qasim Bahri, due to illness, became the last reformer, a teacher of grammar and morphology at the University of Weshq and an active member of the Arab Language Academy in Damascus. Now, praise be to God, I have completed the verification of the book Makarim al-Akhlaq and Hasan al-Adab, the beautiful descriptions, and strange similes by an obscure compiler. I have found that he is among six men, and its pages number 540. Makarim al-Akhlaq and Hasan al-Adab is a general book of manners, divided by its author into four chapters: the first chapter on the virtues of good manners, the second on their faults, the third on the beautiful descriptions and strange similes, and the fourth on the proverbs and sayings circulated among people, arranged alphabetically. Truly, it is filled with the finest expressions from scholars, readers, and writers in every meaning that the speech revolves around. I numbered its texts, reaching 1013, and I checked, annotated, and explained what I thought needed clarification. I dedicated all my effort to it, at a modest cost, to sharpen the mind of the reader, support his argument, and adorn his speech, for it is the essence of eloquence and the eye of the eyes, filled with beauty and the brilliance of expression. I spread between his hands the completion of the verification of part of the book, its author's methodology in its compilation, its sources, and I concluded with comprehensive technical indices that make its benefit easy and assured. I cannot forget to thank my brother, Professor Dar Al-Qalam Imad Al-Din Dawla, for his care of the book, as he was the one who recommended it to me. His esteemed and solid house undertook its publication, and he spared no effort in beautifying and refining it, so that it shone with intricate adornments. O Lord, make it beneficial in serving this clear Arabic language and in presenting its texts purely for Your noble face. Accept it from me, for You are the All-Hearing, the Responsive. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. It was written by Abu Al-Rahman Muhammad Abdullah Qasim. December 12, 2025.
