Messages and Andalusian maqamat
Fawzi Issa Abdulhamid Al-Harama
Heritage Collections
This is a valuable collection of messages and Andalusian maqamat, published from rare handwritten copies in the Egyptian Library and the Leiden Library in the Netherlands. It includes thirty-seven messages, most of which have not been published before, in addition to two maqamat also published for the first time after remaining unknown for a long time, namely "The Cordoban Maqama" and "The Shalabiya Maqama."
The messages in this collection are divided between official messages revealing important political and historical aspects of the eras of the Taifas and the Almoravids, and brotherly messages uncovering new connections between Andalusian writers. They cover interesting topics, along with prose and poetic texts that have not been previously published, by the Sheikh of the Writers in his era, Abdul Rahman Al-Fazazi, a figure who combined politics, religious and linguistic culture, asceticism, and literary creativity. His remaining works illuminate and demonstrate these aspects.
This collection also contains two messages of clear importance in the field of critical studies: the messages of Abu Abdullah ibn Abi Al-Khisal and Abu Muhammad ibn Al-Qasim, which favor Badi' Al-Zaman Al-Hamadhani and Abu Ishaq Al-Sabi.
One of the most notable features of this collection is that it includes new prose works by a group of Andalusian writers from the sixth and seventh Hijri centuries. Some of them are classified among the top tier of prose writers in Andalus, such as "Abu Abdullah ibn Abi Al-Khisal" and his brother "Abu Muroan," "Abd Al-Majid ibn Abdoun," and "Abu Bakr ibn Abd Al-Aziz, known as Ibn Al-Murakhi."
Additionally, it contains a group of less prolific writers, with many of their messages included, such as "Ibn Sahib Al-Salat," "Ibn Sayyid Al-Lughawi," "Abu Muroan ibn Zakariya," and others.
