Introduction of the researcher
Title of the book:
This book is well known as: "The Etiquette of the World and Religion," and it has been printed multiple times, whether by the author himself or others, and no one paid attention to this subject except Mustafa Al-Saqa, who pointed in the introduction of the edition he edited that there is on one of the handwritten copies he relied upon the name of the book: "The Highest Ranks in the Etiquette of Religion and the World," and yet he named the book "The Etiquette of the World and Religion."
Imam Al-Subki said in "Tabaqat Al-Shafi'iya" (267/5) — in the biography of Imam Al-Mawardi —: "The author of Al-Hawi and Al-Iqna' in jurisprudence and the etiquette of religion and the world."
And Omar Rida Kahhala said in "Mu'jam Al-Mu'allifin" (499/2): "Among his writings: 'The Etiquette of Religion and the World.'
He mentioned it and contradicted Ibn Al-Imad in "Shadharat Al-Dhahab" (21/5), where he named it: "The Etiquette of the World and Religion."
So I preferred the name agreed upon by the three copies I relied on in the verification, and Allah is the helper.
Method of verification
With a detailed article, considering the requirements of scholarly verification, including comparing handwritten and printed copies, editing the text, placing punctuation marks, dividing the text, and others, I have done the following:
1 - The author, like other writers and jurists who are not concerned with preserving the Hadiths of the Prophet — relied on many Hadiths that have no authentic basis, or are fabricated, or very weak, or narrate the Hadith by meaning.
Our brother Sheikh Tareq bin Abdul Wahid has scientifically extracted the Hadiths and conveyed the opinions and judgments of earlier and contemporary scholars regarding their authenticity or weakness, may Allah reward him.
2 - I have extracted the sayings, wisdoms, proverbs, and poetry as much as possible, many of which are attributed to more than one speaker.
This extraction increases the value of the verification, as it verifies what the author transmits from others; if he attributes it to its speaker, the phrase is corrected if there is a flaw, and if he does not attribute it, I point this out in the footnote that this meaning is attributed to so-and-so.
I have followed this method in all my works in verification, such as verifying the book "Al-Targheeb wal-Tarheeb" by Al-Hafiz Al-Mundhiri and the book "Fayd Al-Qadir" by Imam Al-Munawi.
Although it is extra effort and exhausting work, it provides a deeper documentation of the work.
I have followed this method based on the work of great scholars who preceded us in this field, may Allah reward them.
3 - I translated all the sayings, wisdoms, and poetry present in the book with a brief translation, then added references for those who want to expand, and this translation also has an impact — it helps in documenting the text and verifying the authenticity of the sources of these texts.
- I created the following indexes:
Indexes of Quranic verses
Indexes of Hadiths
Indexes of sayings, wisdoms, and proverbs
Indexes of poetry
Indexes of the men mentioned
Index of topics
