Arabs mingled with them, and the Arabic language became mixed with their languages. Soon, strange accents and corrupt speech began to infiltrate the speech of the Arabs, and errors and flaws spread, and the language became distorted and the natural speech was spoiled. Honorable scholars took it upon themselves to preserve the pure and untainted Arabic language, because it is the way to understand the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace be upon him. The linguist and poet Abu Muhammad Al-Qasim ibn Ali Al-Hariri composed a beautiful, moderate poem, characterized by the sweetness of its words, the smoothness of its expressions, and numerous examples containing universal wisdom and beneficial manners. He included in it the most important issues of I'rab (grammatical analysis) in three hundred and seventy-three (373) verses, which he named "Mullah Al-I'rab."
