Footnote of the Guide of the Student for Attaining the Desires The text (Guide of the Student for Attaining the Desires) by the Imam, the distinguished scholar Ma'ruf bin Yusuf al-Karmi, a wonderful author, a high-level compiler, easy to understand language but elusive, remarkable in indication but broad in scope, concise yet complete, detailed yet not tiresome. He stipulated — may Allah have mercy on him — that he only mention what the experts of correction and recognition have confirmed as true, and upon which fatwas are based among those who prefer accuracy and precision. The early students of knowledge used to prefer that the student begins by memorizing the text of the guide, for its clarity of expression and ease of memorization. It has been praised by many scholars and virtuous people, who paid attention to its explanation, poetry, and marginal notes. The Sheikh, the Imam, the learned Mustafa al-Dumani al-Dimashqi, the imam of the Hanbali school at Al-Azhar Mosque, has a distinguished, gentle marginal note, in which he clarified what was ambiguous, established many issues, expressed many gems, and revealed some of the wonderful innovations selected from the important reports of Sheikh Osman bin Ahmad al-Futouhi, the grandson of the author of "Muntaha al-Iradat," Sheikh al-Sawalhi, and Sheikh Yusuf, from what they wrote on (Guide of the Student).
