Authorship Dr. Abdullah Abdulaziz Al-Jabreen Presented by Dr. Saad Al-Khathlan Sheikh Yasser Fathi Al Eid Introduction In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and companions, and those who follow his guidance until the Day of Judgment; and after: Indeed, spreading knowledge and teaching it are among the best deeds for which a Muslim is rewarded, with sincere intention, and their reward and blessing continue for him after his death, as the Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "When the son of Adam dies, his deeds are cut off except for three: and among them is: 'a beneficial knowledge.'" And among the most beneficial sciences is that which is based on documentation and verification, and the scholars who verify in every era and country are among the most beneficial and useful to people in general, and to students of knowledge in particular. Among the contemporary verifying scholars is the virtue Sheikh, the scholar Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Jabreen (who passed away on Thursday, the 4th of Dhu al-Hijjah 1438 AH). May Allah encompass him with His vast mercy and forgiveness. I have known him for a long time, and my relationship with him was strengthened in the last ten years of his life. I had sessions with him and some students of knowledge to discuss jurisprudential issues. I knew him as a pious, God-fearing, verified, deeply rooted scholar in knowledge, respecting the evidence from the Book and the Sunnah, and caring about the sayings of the Companions and the Tabi‘un. He was granted the opportunity in the field of authorship, and his writings were beneficial and useful for students of knowledge. Among his most prominent works and scientific projects that he dedicated himself to in the last years of his life, taking up most of his time, is this book: "Facilitating Comprehensive Fiqh for Old and Contemporary Fiqh Issues." When he was ill in the last two years of his life, he was eager to complete this book. He finished it about a month before his death, and he was very happy about that because he saw this book as the project of his life, hoping for reward through it, that it would be a beneficial science after his death, and that he would be rewarded and have his reward continued while he is in his grave. This book is distinguished by features, the most prominent of which are: 1 - Attention to documentation; hardly any page in this book lacks citations from various sources and references. 2 - Attention to verification in disputed issues; it mentions the most prominent sayings of scholars on the issue, their main evidence, and then clarifies what he sees as the preferred opinion, supported by evidence or reasoning. 3 - Attention to evidence from the Book, Sunnah, and sayings of the Companions and Tabi‘un without bias to a particular school of thought; rather, bias is only for what the evidence requires. 4 - Judging the authentic or weak Hadiths and sayings in the book in the manner of early scholars and hadith scholars, who have extensive knowledge of the reasons for hadith and the conditions of men, and he judges the degree of the hadith or the saying himself. 5 - Mentioning the most prominent contemporary issues and new fatawa, and clarifying the legal ruling on them, with attention to including as many as possible of the decisions of Islamic juristic councils and scientific bodies. 6 - Benefiting from the notes of reviewers of this book before its publication; the Sheikh’s approach in many of his books was to present the draft of the book to a number of prominent students of knowledge to benefit from their observations. I ask Allah to benefit from this book, bless it, and make it among the sciences from which people benefit, and to continue its reward and blessing for its author after his death. May Allah forgive the author, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jabreen, and encompass him with His vast mercy, raise his rank among the guided, and make his successor in his place among the righteous. And may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and companions. Written by Dr. Saad bin Turki Al-Khathlan Riyadh, 1439/3/8 AH Introduction to the second edition of "Facilitating Fiqh" Praise be to Allah alone, and peace and blessings be upon whom there is no prophet after him. As for what follows: Allah, the Most Generous, has made it easy for me to print the first part of this book ("Facilitating Fiqh," which includes the chapters on Purification and Prayer), which is the first edition of this book, in the year 1436 AH. And Allah, praise be to Him, facilitated for me the completion of the rest of this book, although I did not expand on the last chapters, but added many scattered issues to most of its chapters. Some chapters, like the chapter on freeing slaves, I limited almost entirely to the issues found in the original of this book, which is my explanation of "Umdat al-Fiqh," along with its original text, "Matn Umdat al-Fiqh." In the chapters of this book, I aimed to include contemporary issues and consensus issues, especially in chapters where I expanded on mentioning their issues. I ask Allah to make the work in this book sincere and correct, and I ask Him to benefit the author and many of His creation with great benefit. Indeed, He is the Most Generous of the generous. And peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and companions. Written on Saturday night, 1438/9/29 AH. It was said and dictated by the humble servant seeking Allah’s mercy and pleasure, Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Jabreen Former member of the Ifta and retired professor at King Saud University in Riyadh
