The book of Al-Kharaj by Abu Yusuf, companion of Abu Hanifa To Abu Yusuf, companion of Abu Hanifa Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Banadar Al-Salam, Egypt Imam Abu Yusuf, one of the most prominent students of Imam Abu Hanifa Al-Nu'man, founder of the Hanafi school, who exerted great effort in spreading the Hanafi school and establishing its principles. The book is considered one of the greatest books of Islamic jurisprudence. It was written in response to a message from Al-Rashid to his judge Abu Yusuf, instructing him to compile a book on the state's finances according to the rulings of Shariah. The book includes an explanation of the state's resources in their various forms, according to what is prescribed by Shariah, and the uses of those funds. It discusses the best way to collect those funds and addresses some of the obligations that the treasury must fulfill, which some governors neglected. The book is an important historical document depicting some of the financial and social conditions of that era. It criticizes some practices of certain governors with the people of Kharaj, where they demand from them amounts that are not obligatory, and they go to extremes in collecting them. Abu Yusuf proposes in "Al-Kharaj" that the caliph sit to hear the grievances of the people once a month or every two months, listening to the oppressed and reprimanding the oppressors, so that the governors cease oppressing their subjects. He also urges the caliph to respond to the demands of farmers and the people of Kharaj in all matters that serve their interests, such as digging rivers. The treasury commits to funding these projects. In summary, Abu Yusuf established a comprehensive system for Kharaj that aligns with the rulings of Islamic law. A beautiful, verified, and diacritic-ed edition, based on three handwritten copies.
