Abdul Mohsin Al-Zamel Introduction Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and companions altogether. As for what follows: The book "Fath al-Bari" by the Hafiz Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani, may Allah have mercy on him, is one of the greatest books of Islam, especially in the field of explaining hadiths. It is among the best and finest writings of the Hafiz, and scholars still draw from this book because it contains a wealth of knowledge across various sciences and disciplines. Like other books of scholars, it is inevitably subject to some shortcomings, and this is apparent. During my review, I noticed some of these shortcomings, especially in the attribution of reports, which constitute only a small part of the book. I have therefore gathered for myself and for those whom I love among my brothers some of what was easy for me to compile from what appeared to me. And I was concerned, then it seemed to me, that completing this effort should include discussing some of the issues raised in the book, which I found to be contrary to verification. I do not mean the scholarly and permissible differences of opinion that allow for differing views; these are acceptable for those who hold them. Furthermore, these observations on what the Hafiz, may Allah have mercy on him, attributed to reports are divided into two parts: one part shows that he was initially mistaken in them, and another part that I strongly suspect he was mistaken or that he was confused about. It was necessary to investigate to clarify whether this suspicion was correct or mistaken. What became clear to me as mistaken, I have documented; and for anything outside these two categories, I hardly investigate attribution unless it is rare. There are also some passages in the Hafiz’s speech that I wished to verify, but I was unable to exhaustively research them. I will mention some of these passages for those among the scholars and students of knowledge who are able to seek them. Let it be known that these observations are on the first part of "Fath al-Bari," the Salafi edition. I ask Allah to help me complete this work in the remaining parts of the book, by His grace and generosity. Amen. This is a humble effort, and if there are any shortcomings, I ask Allah, the Most Generous, to rectify them. I ask Allah to grant success and guidance to me and all my Muslim brothers and sisters in what we do and refrain from. May He make this work purely for His Face. Amen. He is the Generous, the Noble. And prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and companions. Written by the humble servant, Abdul Mohsin bin Abdul Allah Al-Zamel.
