He wrote to us from the Arabian Peninsula from the news of Hejaz and Najd 1-2. Compilation: Qasim bin Khalaf Al-Ruwais. Edition: Publisher: Dar Ahwa. Description: A volume issued by researcher in Saudi history Qasim bin Khalaf Al-Ruwais, a book in two parts, titled "Wrote to us from the Arabian Peninsula from the news of Hejaz and Najd (1924-1931 AD)", including documenting the news of Hejaz and Najd and their annexes before the unification of the Kingdom, and published in "Al-Shura Al-Qahira" newspaper during the period specified by the author in the book's title. This work is 1358 pages of medium size, and is one of the publications of "Dar Ahwa for Publishing" in Al-Dawadmi Province. The author opened his book with an introduction, in which he discussed "Al-Shura" newspaper from which he derived the material of his book, and introduced the biography of its Palestinian journalist owner "Mohammad bin Ali Al-Tahir", with a summary of the general spatial and temporal conditions of the book's material, and clarified that he found in the folds of this newspaper important documents and historical and literary information, and was keen to transfer its materials as they are, without deletion or alteration, except what he was forced to delete, which he indicated in the footnotes. He also included a chapter on the explicit and borrowed names of writers, and timelines of the political events surrounding the Arab world at that time. The materials of the book are arranged in eight chapters, so that the news of each Gregorian year appears sequentially in a dedicated chapter from the oldest to the newest, in chronological order, with comments by the author based on credible sources and references. At the end of his book, the researcher added an appendix of 16 pages, including letters from Sharif "Ahmad Al-Senussi", a resident of Mecca, and literary discussions about the site of "Darin" and its notable residents, participated in by a group of major Arab writers such as: Shakib Arslan, Khair al-Din Zarkali, Amin Wasef, Mahmoud Rashed, Ahmad Zaki Pasha, and Abdulaziz Al-Rashid. The author mentions that the title of his book was inspired by its materials, as the phrase "Arabian Peninsula" appeared in the book 120 times, while the words "peninsula" or "Arabian Gulf" appeared 200 times. There are also other similar phrases used by "Al-Shura", such as: "We learned from the Arabian Peninsula," "The news of the Peninsula was broadcast," "Contacted us from the news of Arabian Arabia," so the title carries within it the spirit of journalism that relies on correspondence to gather news. The author also took care to add 200 old photographs collected from various sources, related to the events, places, and notable figures mentioned in the book, to increase its scientific benefit, enhance its artistic appearance, and break the narrative monotony from an artistic perspective. The researcher equipped his book with two detailed indexes, one for the topics of the book and the other for the photographs and their item numbers, in addition to a comprehensive index to facilitate the reader and researcher in accessing information easily and smoothly. Overall, the book is useful for researchers, students, and readers, due to its valuable news, journalistic materials, rare items, and insights recorded at the time, which over the years have gained importance as they represent a period that has been forever closed. It is worth mentioning that researcher "Qasim Al-Ruwais" is one of the most prominent researchers who benefited from old newspapers and magazines in extracting historical materials related to the Arabian Peninsula. He has many books in this regard, and among his works that drew materials from "Al-Shura" newspaper between the years 1343 to 1350 AH are: "Al-Shuriyat," "From the news of the Emirates," "What's in Kuwait," "Something about Bahrain," "News of Muscat and Oman and something about Zanzibar."
