Comments on the introduction of Sheikh al-Islam in Tafsir

Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah, Dr. Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al-Badah's comments on the introduction of Sheikh al-Islam in Tafsir introduction. Introduction Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be upon the most honorable of prophets and messengers, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and companions altogether. To proceed: These are comments on Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah's introduction to the fundamentals of Tafsir. I delivered them during an academic course in the year 1439 AH, and I saw fit to transcribe and print them in hopes that they may benefit. The one who read them to me was Sheikh Abdullah bin Saad bin Ubaid Al-Harfi. In this commentary, I adhered to the following methodology: 1- Conciseness and brevity, focusing on the main issues of the book, and neglecting what is beyond that. 2- Providing illustrative examples, because the best types of explanations rely on using examples to clarify the issue, visualize it, and reinforce it in the minds. I was keen in the comments to connect it with Tafsir books of various methodologies, and I quoted most Tafsir books, if not all of them. At the end of each chapter, I mentioned summaries of its issues and discussions to help the reader recall and visualize them in a general overview. I also included critiques and remarks on some issues so that the student gets accustomed to this skill and develops it. Documenting the material of this book requires effort and time that I cannot afford, especially given the distance of my library from me; therefore, I decided to publish it as it is, with some modifications where necessary. Thanks to my brother, may Allah bless him, Sheikh Dr. Adam Othman Ali, for reading it and providing valuable notes and insightful remarks. May Allah reward him well and grant him the highest reward. I ask Allah for success in speech and action, and that this work be sincerely for His Face, bringing us closer to Him in gardens of bliss.
