The Fragrant Flowers Mentioning the Issues of Al-Fatiha
Praise be to Allah, who opened His book with praise, and made it the name of the best Surah, and endowed it with special qualities and distinguished it with virtues. He made it contain the greatest issues, and blessings and peace be upon His servant and Messenger, Muhammad the illiterate Prophet, who guided his nation to the straightest paths and pointed them to the most perfect proofs. And upon his noble companions, the early and the latter, and upon the followers, the virtuous and distinguished, and those who followed them with goodness until the Day of Judgment.
As for what follows:
Every book must have an opening that serves as an introduction, clarifying the author's intent and purpose. Surah Al-Fatiha is the Mother of the Quran; Allah has made it the opening of His book — and He is the Most High in the heavens and the earth. It gathers in it the knowledge of the early and the later, and clarifies everything in the Quran regarding the issues of religion. It is comprehensive of all its meanings, containing its secrets and foundations.
It has been authentic from the Prophet — that he said: "Say: He is Allah, the One, [Al-Ikhlas] is equal to one-third of the Quran." From Abu Darda — from the Prophet — peace be upon him — who said: "Can any of you read one-third of the Quran in one night?" They said: "How can one of us read one-third of the Quran?" He said: "Say: He is Allah, the One; it is equal to one-third of the Quran." Muslim recorded this in his Sahih.
And from Abu Saeed Al-Khudri — that a man heard another man reciting: Say: He is Allah, the One, repeatedly.
