[Introduction]
Praise be to Allah, we praise Him, seek His help, guidance, and forgiveness, and we turn to Him in repentance. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of ourselves and the bad consequences of our deeds. Whom Allah guides, there is none to misguide him, and whom He misguides, there is none to guide him. I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. May Allah send blessings and peace upon him, his family, and his companions, and grant them abundant peace.
After that,
These are fundamental principles and rules in the interpretation of the Noble Qur'an, of great importance, highly beneficial, helping the reader and the contemplator to understand the words of Allah, to be guided by them, and their value is greater than what can be described. Indeed, they open for the servant ways of interpretation and a method of understanding Allah’s words: what suffices many interpretations that lack these beneficial researches.
I pray to Allah and ask Him to complete what we intend to present, and to open for us the treasures of His generosity and mercy, which will be a cause for us to attain beneficial knowledge and complete guidance.
Know that the science of Tafsir (interpretation) is the most exalted of sciences in absolute terms, the best, most obligatory, and most beloved to Allah, because Allah commanded pondering His Book, reflecting on its meanings, and being guided by its verses. He praised those who do so and placed them in the highest ranks, promising them the noblest of blessings. If a servant spent the jewels of his life in this science, it would not be considered much compared to what is better of the pursuits, the greatest of goals, the fundamental principles, and the basis of happiness in both worlds. It is the key to the rectification of religion, worldly affairs, and the Hereafter. Through it, the servant’s life is realized with guidance, goodness, and mercy, and Allah prepares for him the best of lives and everlasting righteous deeds.
Now, let us begin by mentioning the rules and principles in a concise manner that achieves the purpose. Because when the door opens for the servant, and the causes are laid out with understanding of the rule, and he trains himself with several examples that clarify and demonstrate its way and methodology, he will not need to expand further or delve into many details.
We ask Allah to support us with His help, kindness, and success, and to make us guided and guiding, by His grace, generosity, and benevolence.
