It is a well-known, high-status, eloquent, easy-to-memorize system, with a high rank and esteemed position among scholars, both in old times and modern. It has been transmitted continuously from Ibn Abi Dawood – may Allah have mercy on him – and narrated by many scholars such as Al-Ajri, Ibn Batta, Ibn Shahin, and others, all of whom are students of the poet. Many scholars have also explained it. The system contains about thirty-two or forty lines, each ending with the letter ح (Haa). Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim – may Allah have mercy on him – said in the Qasida: And likewise Imam Ibn Al-Imam Al-Murtada ….. truly, Abu Dawood, the one with the recognition, authored it in verse and prose, clear ….. in the best Sunnah, they are two stars.
