Introduction:
Praise be to Allah who revealed the Book upon His servant and made no crookedness in it, and I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, the best of people in conduct.
And after:
The issue of similarity in the Noble Qur'an is one of the issues that has stirred much debate in the past and present; as it has been relied upon by the malicious and those who attack the Qur'an to stir doubts and suspicions among the general public and the ignorant in the arts of eloquence and expression.
But from the wisdom of Allah the Almighty is that this similarity in His Book's verses is among the strongest reasons to stand upon His miracle and great eloquence; for no one who attacks the Book of Allah—whether out of ignorance or knowledge—except that the specialists in the study of Allah’s Book will stand to examine His secrets of eloquence and clarity to dispel the doubts of these poor ones, whose arrows turn back upon their throats, those who seek to extinguish the light of Allah with their mouths, and Allah refuses except to perfect His light, even if the disbelievers dislike it. [At-Tawbah]
So every suspicion directed at the Book reveals aspects of good expression, with hidden eloquence, and the beauty of speech concealed. If it were not for the attack of the attackers and the cunning of the envious, their hands would not have extended to uncover and remove its veil.
This great work has clarified many aspects of the beauty in the verses of the ambiguous parts of the Book, refuting the doubts brought by the misguided and the slips of the scholars.
The book "Durrat At-Tanzeel wa Gharra At-Ta’weel" is one of the finest and most remarkable works on the ambiguous parts of the Qur'an; its author is characterized by patience, abundant knowledge, strong persuasion, and beautiful style, mostly in his book.
I have read this book, verified it, and commented on its issues and problems as part of our plan to produce a comprehensive encyclopedia of the most important books in this field—namely, the science of the ambiguous parts of the Qur'an. Since this book is among the most significant and highest in status and rank, it was necessary to include it in this blessed encyclopedia.
And praise be to Allah, we have exerted effort—by His grace—to correct its text, trace its evidences from the Qur'an, Sunnah, poetry, and translation of the prominent scholars and figures mentioned in it, compare its text with the printed and manuscript copies available to us, and index its topics and issues, comment on its difficulties, and explain its obscure parts.
I have come across good manuscript copies of the book at the Institute of Manuscripts Revival, which we marked with the symbol (خ), and relied heavily on it. It is a copy of the manuscript preserved at the Institute of Arabic Manuscripts, number 133.
I also found a good verified edition of the book (1), edited by Dr. Mustafa Aydin—may Allah reward him well for us and for Muslims. He referred to other manuscript copies from which he benefited in some parts, and we indicated that. We marked his copy with the symbol (د).
Additionally, we referred to the edition of Dar Al-Kutub Al-Ilmiyah—Beirut—with the symbol (ك), which is an unverified edition. There are other unverified editions as well, and some manuscript copies that we did not rely heavily upon but mentioned in some copies.
I pray Allah to accept this work for His sake, to grant us abundant reward in this world and the Hereafter, and to make it beneficial for His servants, revealing the miracle of His Book. Indeed, You are, Glory be to You, the All-Powerful.
