Introduction
Praise be to Allah who revealed the Qur'an as a guide to the paths of righteousness, and as a means to the ways of correctness, a speaking revelation with clear evidences and proofs, and a Qur'an in Arabic that has no crookedness.
And blessings and peace be upon the noble Prophet, the one with the praised station, the one who is given the basin (of abundance), sent with the clear Book, and the one who distinguishes between doubt and certainty.
And upon his pure family, his successors from the sisters and in-laws, and upon his companions from the migrants and the helpers.
Afterward, the craft of investigation is the domain of the righteous, the eager, and the end of lifetimes. It is a place of competition and striving, and among its seekers, there is disparity and excellence. For this reason, it may open for one investigator doors that others have not reached, despite the succession of paths and causes, and in every good.
And I have, for a considerable time, desired to serve a book in interpretation, until its garden blossomed, its scent spread, its full moon rose and shone, and a caller called out for success. So I made the resolve to serve, asking Allah for help and wisdom, for He is the one who multiplies rewards for His servants and protects them from error and falsehood.
The interpretation we have in hand is for the eminent Imam, Mu'in al-Din Muhammad ibn Abdul Rahman Al-Iji Al-Shirazi Al-Shafi'i, who passed away in the year 905 AH.
He named it: "Jami' al-Bayan fi Tafsir al-Qur'an" (Comprehensive Exposition in the Interpretation of the Qur'an).
It was conducted according to the traditions of those before him from the scholars of interpretation with narration, responding to those who deviated from their path and freed themselves from their bonds.
The work was divided into two sections after the introduction: the study section and the investigation section.
I divided the study into six chapters.
Chapter One: I referred to the biography of Imam Mu'in al-Din Al-Iji, discussing his name, lineage, birthplace, his scholarly status, and the praise of scholars. I also mentioned his most famous teachers, his most important works, and the year of his death.
Chapter Two: I dedicated it to documenting the attribution of the book and its title, confirming this with evidence that dispels doubt and refutes criticism, based on biographical dictionaries and the authentic copies relied upon, as well as clarifying the period of its composition and its place.
Chapter Three: I touched on the features of Al-Iji's methodology in his interpretation, clarifying what helps the reader understand his intent and grasp his approach.
Chapter Four: I demonstrated the care of the old schools in Najd for Al-Iji's interpretation, and the interaction of the scientific movement in Najd with the author, along with the early interest in his interpretation.
Chapter Five: I dedicated it to describing the trusted handwritten copies, identifying each with what reveals their characteristics and features, and pointed out the most preferred among them and others accordingly, as well as describing the supporting copies for consultation that are not relied upon.
Chapter Six: It explains the multiple presentations of Al-Iji's interpretation and the impact of having two similar titles with independent content on the historians who translated the author.
Chapter Seven: I mentioned the most important previous editions of the book, along with the errors, slips, and criticisms they contained, which necessitated a new edition that would have a better impact and be sought after by the souls of the righteous.
Chapter Eight: I concluded the study section with a plan of work for the book.
As for the second section, which is the investigation: I exerted effort and diligence, seeking the right and guidance.
I ask Allah for ongoing support, His grace, and complete blessings, for from Him is the supplication, and with Him is success and guidance.
There is no lord but Him, and no hope except in His goodness.
