Knowledge of Hadith sciences is a tool used to detect the authentic Sunnah narrated from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, among many transmissions in which the weak has mixed with the authentic, and many writings have been authored on it, easily counted. These sciences initially began as applied sciences that were not rooted in theoretical foundation, in order to simplify their understanding and facilitate their use. The necessity of distinguishing the authentic Sunnah from others prompted the early Muslim scholars to exert effort and independent judgment, guided by reason, to verify the authenticity of the transmission. Over time, as the chains of narration grew longer and more numerous, this science developed into a systematized discipline to meet the needs, as will be explained later in this book.
People afterward adopted the formulation of rules for these sciences, similar to what was done in the foundational sciences of other tools, such as Arabic language and principles of jurisprudence. The scholars continued to refine, simplify, and facilitate this science up to the present day, with particular focus on its terminology. As a result, these sciences became known as "Hadith terminology," and in later times, those concerned with it treated it as a theoretical science, similar to other sciences of tools like principles of jurisprudence, which are studied academically but not necessarily applied practically.
A group of students today dared to use these terminologies to judge the chains of narration, relying solely on apparent terms, believing that memorizing these terms in books is the ultimate goal of this science. Only a few understood the difficulty of the path and tread carefully, diligently following the signs.
Therefore, this book contains a summary of ideas in the sciences of Hadith, including issues and narrations, aiming to provide a great benefit for students in this field and in various branches of Hadith sciences.
