Authored by Sheikh Muhammad Ali Al-Siddiqi Al-Shafi'i The Book of the Near (Al-Muqarrib) in Knowing the Mutashabih (Ambiguous) in the Quran In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful Praise be to Allah, who created man and taught him eloquence, and distinguished him among all animals with reason, and made him different through speech and tongue, and made him diverse like other colors. I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate, the King, the Judge. And I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, sent as a mercy to humans and jinn, specially endowed by Allah with eloquence and clarity, the guide to the most complete laws of faith. Peace and blessings be upon him, his family, his companions, and all brothers. As for what follows: The Book of the Near (Al-Muqarrib) in Knowing the Mutashabih in the Quran. This is a part about the Mutashabih in the Holy Quran, summarized by its author from the book "Al-Muhadhab" concerning the Mutashabih in the Quran by Al-Suyuti. Despite its weakness, its benefit, and its limited fame, it has been summarized in Al-Muhadhab, with additional points. I saw fit to verify it and to introduce a brief preface about the Mutashabih in the Quran. The motivation for this work is the scarcity of writings on this topic, and the rarity of messages or books written about it. I divided the work into two sections: First section: Study Second section: Verification As for the study, it included the following: - The preface: which contains a brief overview of the Mutashabih in the Quran. - The translator's biography. As for the second section: verification, I followed the methods commonly accepted by scholars, such as numbering the verses, tracing the hadiths, translating the scholars' names, documenting the sayings, and similar. I also added in the footnotes the locations where these words appeared in the Quran, if there were ten or fewer, and if more, I only mentioned the first and last with their counts. It is worth noting that I did not critique or comment on the words mentioned in the summarized version; I kept his words as they are because I have begun compiling a diwan (collection) that gathers both authentic and unauthentic Mutashabih in the Quran. I ask Allah — Glorified and Exalted — to facilitate completing it and to help in its completion. He is the only helper, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah.
