Al-Suyuti was born on the evening of Sunday, the first of Rajab in the year 849 AH in Cairo. His father, Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Bakr bin Muhammad al-Khudayri al-Asyuti, migrated from Asyut to study knowledge. He was from a family renowned for knowledge and piety. Al-Suyuti's father died when he was six years old, so the child grew up an orphan. He turned to memorizing the Qur'an, which he completed before the age of eight. He also memorized some books at that young age, such as al-‘Umdat, al-Minhaj in jurisprudence and fundamentals, and Ibn Malik’s Alfiyyah, thereby broadening his understanding and increasing his knowledge.
