Explanation of the Diwan of Imru' al-Qais 1-4 Muhammad bin Abdulrahman al-Baghdadi The value that Arab poetry enjoys, especially what relates to the poetry of the Jahiliyyah, we find scholars, critics, and writers, old and new, turning to it for research and study. The jurist and writer Muhammad bin Abdulrahman al-Baghdadi, may Allah have mercy on him (died 1078 AH), made a great effort in providing an important explanation of the Diwan, following a scientific method when presenting and analyzing the poetic verses, focusing on the coherence of the words and their true and metaphorical meanings, which produced linguistic, rhetorical, and critical relationships that indicate the ability of the explainer through clarifying these relationships in the clearest language and a distinctive style. After reviewing this valuable explanation, we found that the explainer used a mixture of Arabic sciences, including rhetoric, grammar, morphology, semantics, and others. It becomes clear that the book is a wonderful model of authentic Arab heritage, worthy of study and investigation, to revive and publish this book. Because laziness and negligence in performing this duty deprive the people of literature and artistic taste from the fruits of the great scientific and literary treasures inherited from the ancients. We have had the honor of choosing this book—studying and investigating it—to be the title of our thesis, submitted as part of the requirements for obtaining a master's degree in Arabic language and literature at the College of Arts, Tikrit University, Department of Arabic Language. We presented the topic to the scientific committee in the Department of Arabic Language, and, thanks to Allah, it was approved after dividing it into four sections, each of us taking one section. We proceeded with the work, seeking help from Allah Almighty, then from our supervising professors, may Allah preserve them and bless them. With Allah's grace and success, we overcame many obstacles and difficulties.
