To the scholar Ahmed Muhammad Al-Shanqiti Tafsir Al-Hashiyah, his student / Khidr Ahmed Al-Jazairi Part of the introduction In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate Praise be to Allah, the Most High, the Most Great, the Benevolent, the Merciful, the Generous Creator, the One with Grace and Bounty, who created the creatures and did not leave them aimless, but called them to His worship alone, and with a great law and religion, He guided them. He called them to learn it and made jurisprudence in it one of His signs of mercy and His desire for goodness for His worlds. I praise Him and thank Him for His blessings, and my success in praising Him and thanking Him is from His grace. I thank Him and my success in thanking Him is from His blessings. So, all praise and thanks are due to Allah, first and last, outward and inward. Glory be to Him, we cannot reach His praise and thanks for His blessings, even if we strive diligently. To Him is all praise and thanks, as well as His great sovereignty. I send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, the seal of His prophets and messengers, who brought us this great law and struggled in delivering and clarifying it in the most perfect way until we left it upon a pure white. So, O Allah, reward him for us with the best of what You reward a prophet for his nation, and send blessings upon him, O Lord, and upon his family, wives, descendants, and companions, with continuous and intertwined blessings and peace until the Day of Judgment. After: There is no doubt that the science of Usul (principles of jurisprudence) is among the most noble sciences, for indeed, it is a great help in attaining high goals and acquiring noble virtues. It is worthy of dedicating the best of lifetimes to it. It has been said: Knowledge is honored by the honor of its subject and its knowledge. And there is no doubt that the primary subject of Usul is jurisprudence in the Book and the Sunnah, and reaching an understanding of the ways to derive legal rulings from them, as they are closely related. Because of this, the scholar of it has honor and virtue, which he deserves as a reward for his concern with the tools of understanding Allah’s religion. And from Allah’s blessings upon me and His success for me is that He made me among those who seek to acquire this noble science — the science of Usul — because of its close connection to the words of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger. And from His blessings and success for me is that He facilitated for me to learn this science from a great scholar who is among the most knowledgeable people of this science and other Islamic and linguistic sciences. I mean my teacher, the scholar Al-Tahrir: Ahmed bin Muhammad Al-Amin bin Ahmed Al-Mukhtar Al-Jakani Al-Shinqiti. May Allah have mercy on him — a student of our Sheikh, the scholar Muhammad Al-Amin Al-Shinqiti — may Allah have mercy on him — author of “Anwar Al-Bayan” and other beneficial writings. And he is a relative of ours by kinship. Among what I am working on from the knowledge I received from my teacher, Allah, and which was the beginning of my work, is my marginal notes on his poetry and explanation in rhetoric, which I call “Zaf Al-Tahani” (The Wedding of Congratulations) with commentary on “Nail Al-Amani” (Attaining Desires) and “Jawahir Al-Bayan” (Jewels of Eloquence), and “Al-Badee” (The Creative) and “Al-Ma’ani” (Meanings). It has been printed, praise be to Allah, in two volumes. I followed it with my explanation of our teacher’s “Tahdhib” (Refinement), called “Preparation of the Heart,” on legal rules, which I named “Al-Bahr Al-Zakhir” (The Overflowing Sea) in explaining “I’dad Al-Mahaj” (Preparation of the Path) for benefiting from the poetry of the methodology in the rules of Maliki jurisprudence. It is currently under print at Dar Ibn Hazm. I ask Allah, the Generous, to facilitate its publication. My third project is a service project for my teacher’s works, Allah, his noble book in Usul Al-Fiqh, called “Ghyat Al-Ma’mool” (The Desired Goal) of the science of Usul. I have worked to make it refined, simplified, and accessible to every student seeking to acquire this science, by reordering it according to the usual arrangement in books of Usul, because our teacher, Allah, arranged the topics of this book — which, praise be to Allah, covers all the chapters of the science of Usul from beginning to end — in accordance with what was established and required.
