Introduction
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah who made Islam the religion of truth that Allah is pleased with none other than it, and praise be to Allah who, سبحانه, has judged all other religions as invalid and their followers as losers; therefore, Allah made it victorious over all other religions, opened cities and lands for its followers; because they follow the path of the Master of mankind who defeated his enemy, honored his party, and raised his mention.
And praise be to Allah who gathered us on Islam and united our hearts with the Quran and guided us to His mercy through the Quran. And praise be to Allah who honored us with the revelation of the Quran, dignified us with the Quran, and made us worthy of carrying His speech and receiving His message.
And blessings and peace be upon the master of the children of Adam, who was nurtured and raised by his Lord with the Quran, as Allah, the Most High, said: "And indeed, you are of a great moral character" [Qalam: 4], and He raised his companions in gatherings of remembrance and the Quran; so Allah opened through him hearts that were sealed, eyes that were blind, and ears that were deaf.
And I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner, sincerely for Him, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger sent as mercy to the worlds.
There is no deity but Allah, the Great, the Forbearing; there is no deity but Allah, the Lord of the Great Throne; there is no deity but Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the Lord of the earths, and the Lord of the Noble Throne.
O Allah, send your blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and companions, and grant them abundant peace.
May Allah be pleased with the companions, and those who follow them with goodness until the Day of Judgment.
Servants of Allah, fear Allah as He should be feared; for our bodies are on fire and cannot endure it. Cling to the Quran, for it is to the hearts what the soul is to the bodies—giving them eternal, everlasting life.
And seek beneficial knowledge, for it is the treasure of the grave and the light of the heart. Do good, for whoever does good will not be deprived of its reward.
And increase in worship, for it is a proof of sincere devotion to Allah. And have high aspirations, for they are the way to the summit.
As for what follows:
I repeat my praise, thanks, and glorification to Allah, Lord of the worlds, for His apparent and hidden blessings. And praise be to Allah who revived me and kept away from me the evil of the wicked, the cunning of the impious, and the assaults of night and day.
And praise be to Allah for completing the achievement of this book, "Al-Hadith," by the distinguished scholar, the Hafiz, Imam Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Abdul Hadi Al-Maqdisi, may Allah have mercy on him and on the entire nation of Muhammad.
I had delayed completing the investigation of this book for more than a year, as I lived among people, mending their wounds, advising them with patience and mercy, and loving people for forbidding the killing of a believing soul; for forbidding it is to revive it.
On Tuesday morning, 25th of Shawwal, 1436 AH, the cross planes killed my nephew Ibrahim, thirteen years old, unjustly and aggressively, in broad daylight in his grocery shop, killing and burning him.
So I resumed the investigation of the book and dedicated myself fully to it during the sacred months, hoping that Allah would forbid us from the fire; I made the investigation a gift for the soul of my nephew, asking Allah, the Almighty, the Lord of the Most Great Throne, to have mercy on his youth and exile, and to make his burning and killing a testimony in the way of Allah, and that Allah grants his good deeds until the Day of Judgment.
He was among the righteous and charitable, and he used to pray Fajr with me in my mosque. He often performed Umrah to the House of Allah with his parents. I ask Allah to make their calamity a mercy and a purification for them before Allah on the Day when neither wealth nor children will benefit except those who come to Allah with a sound heart.
Before the month ended, my brothers Muhammad and Ahmed were killed; they went out seeking sustenance to feed their families, and the cross planes bombed them. I ask Allah to have mercy on them and to grant them reward and light with Him.
In this context, I remind my brothers of righteousness and kinship, especially kinship and maintaining ties; for through good deeds, hardships are alleviated. Whoever does good, Allah will do good to him. Allah has made for those who seek Him and fear Him a way out of every distress and ease for every hardship.
Allah, the Most High, said: "As for he who gives and fears Allah and believes in the good [reward], We will ease him toward ease" [Lail: 5-7]. I ask Allah to make me and the reader of my words among them.
I advise to occupy oneself with the affairs of the Hereafter, and reflect on Allah's words about His chosen ones: "Indeed, We have chosen them with a pure remembrance" [Saad: 46]. Yes, make your concern the Hereafter.
Allah, the Most High, said: "And We did not create the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them except in truth, and indeed, the Hour is coming, so forgive with gracious forgiveness" [Al-Hijr: 85].
So if you love the Hereafter, you will love Paradise. And if you love Paradise, you will abandon desires. And if you love the Hereafter, you will fear the Fire and abandon sins.
Tell yourself: O soul, do not be arrogant, for a day will come when you will depart. Life passes, and the lasting good deeds remain.
And I advise to draw closer to Allah with every breath, and with every abandonment of forbidden acts, including the forbidden sight. Reflect on Allah’s words: "Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth" [An-Nur: 35], after the verses about lowering the gaze. Whoever lowers his gaze from what is forbidden, Allah will free his insight with light.
If Allah grants you success in good deeds, thank Allah for doing good, and increase supplication, for it is carried with hope and returns with giving.
And watch your heart in loving Allah and loving the Messenger, peace be upon him. Know that loving the Messenger includes learning his Sunnah, and the Quran has established that knowledge precedes speech and action. It is important to learn the hadiths of rulings, and understanding the reasons for hadiths is a jewel in the crown of hadith science.
The book of Ibn Abdul Hadi comes to you like a decorated bride; it is beneficial and engaging in the hadiths of rulings, which the scholar and beginner alike need, adorned with pearls of benefits and gems of traditions and reasons.
This book has been previously printed by more than one publisher, and now I present it for printing at Dar Al-Jawzi - may Allah protect it. If publishers had a capital city, Dar Al-Jawzi would be the capital of the world in spreading pure religion and beneficial knowledge, with care, attention, and precision.
I ask Allah that this book benefits the nation of Muhammad, peace be upon him. Our last supplication is praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
