It comes after the two Sahihs, as Imam Abu Dawood Suleiman classified the Hadiths, totaling 5,274 Hadiths. He selected them from five hundred thousand Hadiths. Abu Dawood began with Hadiths of rulings that jurists relied upon, and scholars of the cities built rulings upon them, as he said in his letter to the people of Mecca: "These are all the Hadiths of the Sunnah in rulings, and many other Hadiths in asceticism, virtue, and others outside this I did not include." He divided his book into 36 books, and each book into 1,871 chapters, and translated each Hadith with what scholars deduced from it. The cover of the book features the Hadiths attributed to the Prophet Muhammad, as well as the Hadiths stopped at the Companions, and the narrations attributed to scholars of Tabi‘in.
