Introduction
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, the Owner of the Day of Judgment, who made pilgrimage obligatory upon His servants, and made it incumbent upon the able among the present and the absent, and blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, who clarified the rites of pilgrimage in a way that established the proof and made the path clear, so that every person could understand his Umrah and Hajj. May Allah exalt him and his family and companions and grant them abundant peace.
To proceed,
Indeed, the rites of Hajj are one of the pillars of Islam and its great foundations. The Muslims unanimously agree that it is an obligation from its obligations and a symbol of the symbols that Allah commanded to honor. It is among the widespread knowledge that the nation inherited from predecessors, and neglecting it is among the greatest sins. Neglecting it intentionally and persistently is a form of disbelief. Allah, the Most High, said:
"And pilgrimage to the House is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who are able to undertake it. And whoever disbelieves — then indeed, Allah is free from need of the worlds." [Al-Imran: 97]
It is established in the hadith of Abdullah ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger, peace be upon him, said:
"Islam is built on five: Testifying that there is no deity but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger, establishing prayer, paying Zakat, fasting Ramadan, and performing pilgrimage to the House of Allah for whoever is able to find a way to it." (1)
And regarding consensus, the nation has agreed on the obligation of Hajj for the able once in a lifetime. (1)
Hajj is among the apparent rites and ongoing Sunnahs, and within it are secrets, benefits, and purposes that cannot be encompassed by pen nor described by speech. Only the perfect of those with knowledge and general faith can understand its noble goals and wondrous wisdom.
Allah, the Most High, said:
"And [mention] when We designated for Ibrahim the place of the House, [saying], 'Do not associate anything with Me and purify My House for those who perform Tawaf and those who stand [in prayer] and those who bow and prostrate.'" [Al-Hajj: 31]
Hajj: 31, meaning pilgrims.
Allah made His Sacred House a standing place for the people, so it is the pillar of the world upon which its construction is based. If all people abandoned Hajj for a year, the sky would fall upon the earth. This is what Ibn Abbas, the translator of the Qur'an, said.
The Sacred House is the foundation of the world's stability, and it remains standing as long as this house is visited. Hajj is exclusive to the pure monotheism, and it complements prayer. It is the secret of the saying of the servant — La ilaha illa Allah — which is based on pure monotheism and sincere love. It is the visitation of the beloved to His loved ones and their invitation to His House and His honored place.
Therefore, when they enter into this worship, their slogan is: "Labbaik Allahumma Labbaik" — responding to the call of the beloved, and that is why the Talbiyah holds a special place with Allah. The more they utter it, the more they draw closer.
