In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. All praise is due to Allah, whom we praise, seek help from, and ask for forgiveness. We seek refuge in Allah from the evil of ourselves and from our bad deeds. Whomever Allah guides, there is none to misguide him; and whomever He misguides, there is none to guide him. I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, with no partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except as Muslims. O mankind, fear your Lord who created you from one soul, and from it created its mate, and from both spread many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Surely Allah is ever watchful over you. O you who believe, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate conduct. He will rectify your deeds for you and forgive your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, then indeed he has achieved a great achievement. [Al-Ahzab: 70-71].
As for what follows: this is an explanation of "Sahih Muslim" by the mercy of Allah, may He be exalted. I begin by saying: In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. Praise be to Allah, who revealed the Book to His servant and did not make any crookedness in it, and He entrusted its explanation to His Messenger ﷺ, lifting from us thereby some hardship. He, may He be exalted, said in His decisive Book: "And We have sent down to you the mention that you may explain to the people what has been sent down to them" [An-Nahl: 44]. His Sunnah is a clear explanation, and thus He legislated in the most perfect way. I bear witness that there is no deity but Allah alone, who has made for the pious a sincere refuge and a way out, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, whom Allah sent as mercy to the worlds, removing from them all burdens that were too heavy for the shoulders of the previous nations.
And after: When Allah, the Most High, facilitated for me the detailed explanation of the introduction of "Sahih Muslim" by His grace, covering its aims and benefits, and when Allah made it easy for me and helped me to publish it among the scholars, I loved to add this explanation to "Sahih Muslim" in full, to encompass its purposes, benefits, discussions, and to remove ambiguities, open closed matters, clarify the sciences it contains, its secrets of understanding, and to clarify issues related to the chain of narration or the text, and other important matters for students of knowledge, especially those studying hadith. I draw this from the abundant grace of the King, the Bestower, and I quote from the words of wise people, among the giants of hadith who contributed to this science in the past and present. Notably among its commentators are the righteous imams: Al-Qadi ‘Iyad, Ibn al-‘Arabī, Al-Qurtubi, An-Nawawi, and among the later scholars, Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Alī, known as Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalānī, in his unparalleled book "Fath al-Bārī" explaining Sahih al-Bukhārī. I have said about it: Without "Fath al-Bārī" and then "Fath al-Bārī" (2), I would not have completed my work. Likewise, the works of the imams and scholars such as Ibn al-Mundhir, Al-Bayhaqi, Al-Baghawi, Al-Khatib, Al-Mundziri, Al-Dhahabi, Ibn Hazm, Ibn Daqiq al-‘Id, Ibn al-Mulqin, Ibn Taimiyyah, Ibn al-Qayyim, Al-‘Ayni, Ibn Qudamah, Al-San‘ani, Al-Shawkani, Ibn al-‘Athīr, Al-Fayoumi, Ibn Manzur, Al-Majd al-Fayruzabadi, and others whom you will encounter as I cite sources, may Allah have mercy on them all, and gather us with them in their noble ranks, Ameen.
The explanation, God willing, by His help and strength, will be a source of joy for the lovers of the Sunnah, removing all confusion and doubt.
[Note: The rest of the text continues with detailed methodology, referencing sources, chain of narrations, and scholarly citations, which are highly technical and specific to the sciences of hadith and Islamic scholarship.]
