What is Firostat
Acyclovir (English: Acyclovir) is an antiviral drug used as a treatment for simple herpes virus infection, varicella-zoster virus, cytomegalovirus, and chickenpox virus. Acyclovir is also used as a preventive treatment for recurrent episodes of these viral infections, helping to reduce the number of these episodes in the future. However, acyclovir is not a curative treatment, as the targeted viruses remain dormant inside the body between episodes, and reappear causing symptoms of the disease from time to time.
Mechanism of action of acyclovir
Acyclovir works mainly by:
Reducing the duration of viral infection.
Reducing the severity of the disease and symptoms, such as pain and itching.
Speeding up healing of sores caused by viral infection and preventing new sores from forming.
Reducing the number of episodes when taken as a preventive treatment.
Reducing the chance of virus transmission to other parts of the body, especially in immunocompromised patients.
