How Atorvastatin works:
Atorvastatin is a cholesterol-lowering drug belonging to the "statin" class. Statins work to lower blood cholesterol levels by preventing the reduction of the enzyme 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA (HMG-CoA), which is essential for cholesterol production in the liver. The decrease in liver cholesterol stimulates an increase in low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptors, which increases the liver's absorption of LDL and reduces LDL levels in the blood.
Medical uses of Atorva 10 mg tablets:
It is used to lower fats known as cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood when a low-fat diet and lifestyle changes fail to achieve the desired result.
Cholesterol is a natural substance in the body necessary for normal growth. However, if there is too much cholesterol in the blood, it can accumulate on the walls of blood vessels, increasing the risk of blood clots and heart diseases. Elevated cholesterol levels are one of the most common causes of heart diseases.
If you are at increased risk of heart disease, it can also be used to reduce these risks even if your cholesterol levels are normal.
You should maintain a suitable diet to lower cholesterol during treatment.
How to use Atorva 10 mg tablets:
The usual starting dose of Atorvastatin is 10 mg once daily for adults and children aged 10 years or older. The dose may be increased if necessary by your doctor to reach the target.
Take Atorvastatin tablets whole with water, with or without food. You can take Atorvastatin tablets at any time of the day, but the most common instructions are to take cholesterol-lowering medications at night, as it is believed that cholesterol production is higher at night.
Dose adjustments may be made in special circumstances, so always follow your doctor’s or pharmacist’s instructions.
If you take more than the prescribed dose, talk to your doctor or go to the hospital immediately.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is time for the next dose.
Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for the missed one.
