Product description

Atacand 16 mg tablets, medication belonging to Angiotensin II receptor blockers, used in the treatment of chronic hypertension, acute coronary syndromes, heart failure, and chronic kidney diseases. Indications and uses - Chronic hypertension: orally: initially: 8 mg once daily. Assess response after about 2 to 4 weeks and adjust the dose (for example, doubling the daily dose), as needed, up to 32 mg once daily; if further blood pressure control is needed, consider combination therapy. Patients with severe asymptomatic hypertension without signs of acute organ damage should be evaluated for dose adjustment within one week. - Acute coronary syndromes: 1- Non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome: orally: initial dose: 8 mg once daily. Increase dose as permitted up to 32 mg/day under close monitoring to avoid hypotension. 2- ST elevation acute coronary syndrome: orally: initial: 8 mg once daily. Increase dose as permitted up to 32 mg/day under close monitoring to avoid hypotension. - Heart failure: orally: initial: 4-8 mg once daily. Increase the dose (for example, double) every more than 2 weeks based on patient response and tolerance until reaching the target dose of 32 mg once daily. - Chronic kidney diseases: orally: 8 mg once daily. It can be increased to 32 mg once daily based on response with blood pressure reduction and patient tolerance. - Children's doses: Hypertension: A- For children from 1 to less than 6 years old: orally: initial dose: 0.2 mg/kg/day once daily; dose adjustment according to response (a blood pressure lowering effect is usually observed within two weeks of starting treatment); usual range: 0.05 to 0.4 mg/kg/day divided once or twice daily; maximum daily dose: 0.4 mg/kg/day. - For other children's doses, refer to the dose and method of use. Active ingredients: Candesartan cilexetil. Dose and method of use - Taken regardless of meals. - Children's doses (continued): B- For children and adolescents from 6 to less than 17 years old: orally: 1- If the patient weighs less than 50 kg: initial dose: 4 to 8 mg/day once daily; dose adjustment according to response; usual range: 2 to 16 mg/day divided once or twice daily; maximum daily dose: 32 mg/day. 2- If the patient weighs more than 50 kg: initial dose: 8 to 16 mg/day once daily. Dose adjustment according to response; usual range: 4 to 32 mg/day divided once or twice daily; maximum daily dose: 32 mg/day. C- For adolescents over 17 years: orally: initial dose: 16 mg once daily. Dose adjustment according to response (a blood pressure lowering effect is usually observed within two weeks; maximum effect appears within 4 to 6 weeks); usual dose: 8 to 32 mg/day divided once or twice daily. Side effects: Hypotension, renal dysfunction, dizziness, hyperkalemia, back pain, upper respiratory infection, pharyngitis, rhinitis, headache, worsening of kidney diseases (children and adolescents), and increased blood creatinine. Precautions - Not given to patients allergic to candesartan. - May cause hyperkalemia, with risk factors including impaired kidney function, diabetes, use of potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, and/or potassium-containing salts. - Severe hypotension may occur at the start of treatment in patients with salt deficiency. - Kidney function deterioration and/or increased blood creatinine may occur, especially in patients with decreased renal blood flow (e.g., renal artery stenosis, heart failure). - Caution in patients with aortic stenosis. - Avoid use in patients with ascites due to liver cirrhosis. - Used with caution in heart failure. - Dose adjustment required for patients with moderate hepatic impairment. - Candesartan should be used cautiously in patients with unilateral or bilateral renal artery stenosis. - Use cautiously in cases of renal impairment. - Avoid use in infants under 1 year due to potential effects on immature kidney growth. - The blood pressure-lowering effects of angiotensin receptor blockers may be less apparent in black patients. - If the dose exceeds the permitted amount, be prepared to inform or show what was taken, when it happened, and seek immediate medical care.
