IMAJ Effervescent Sachet 10 packs Active ingredient: Magnesium citrate Indications for use: Prevents magnesium ions from forming calcium oxalate crystals in the blood by combining with dietary oxalates, thus preventing kidney stone formation. Makes urine citrate ions alkaline so that urine dissolves and is eliminated easily. Also, citrate ions prevent calcium oxalate formation. Therefore, magnesium citrate can be prescribed to prevent recurrence of calcium oxalate kidney stones. Indicated for: • Oxaluria cases. • Mild laxative to relieve constipation. Do not take magnesium citrate: • In case of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and other symptoms of appendicitis. • In case of abdominal surgery. • In case of intestinal obstruction or perforation. • In case of anal fissures. Precautions and warnings: Use with caution in: • Patients with kidney failure. • Patients with rectal bleeding. • Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Possible side effects of magnesium citrate include: • Gastrointestinal irritation. • Abdominal cramps. • Nausea. • Diarrhea. • Dependence on laxatives with long-term or excessive use. • Fluid and electrolyte disturbances. Other medications and magnesium citrate: Generally, magnesium salts may impair the absorption of many other medications. Administration should be separated by several hours. The following classes of drugs may interact with magnesium: • Aminoglycosides (such as chloroquine). • Fluoroquinolones (such as ciprofloxacin). • Nitrfurantoin. • Penicillamine and tetracyclines. How to take magnesium citrate: Dissolve the contents of one sachet in half a glass of water and take 3 times daily or as directed by the doctor. Storage of magnesium citrate: • Keep this medication out of sight and reach of children. • Do not use this medication after the expiration date.
