Nazik Al-Malaika is one of the most important Iraqi and Arab poets in the modern era, she became famous as a pioneer of free verse or (Taf'ila poetry), where she achieved a significant transition in the form and structure of poetic poems from the classical form and style that prevailed in Arabic literature for several centuries to the form known as free verse. Her poetic legacy represented a result of breaking many traditions as her transition from traditional poetry to free verse faced great controversy and opposition, and the criticisms were not limited to traditional poets but also included her family. Poet Nazik Al-Malaika revolted against outdated traditions, and this was reflected in her poetry, much of which was a cry against what Arab women suffer from, as when women are restricted from love in general, they stop loving life, homeland, and people.
